(...) Ya, Agreed. At the time the "Brief" view-mode was conjured up, there were relatively few messages going by with garbled line-endings, and it didn't show up much at all. Dan: (...) [...] (...) Since the script wouldn't have to grab any HTML at all, I can't see what the problem is. You just do a HEAD request and check if the result is below 400.
