Sorry to be treating you like slrn tech support, but you did
volunteer, so I thought I would ask what you think about this
situation. First, I edited the .slrnrc file and put my info in,
including lugnet.com and newsguy for my authentication server. They
work fine insofar as connecting and reading goes - haven't tried
posting yet.
When I connect to lugnet.com I get a brief wait before it displays the
groups I have subscribed to. But when I connect to newguy it sits at
this screen FOREVER, but does finally get to the groups list
Connected to host. Posting Ok.
Checking for new groups ...
Checking news via active file ...

That's where it sits.
Now I understand that newsguy is hosting a few more groups than lugnet
(relative sizes of the .newsrc's for each 491k to 13k) - is that what
it is going through? If so, do you know if I can trim that down to
speed things up?
