In lugnet.admin.database, Todd Lehman writes:

For reasons of server load and the above, I've moved the
notes and buy/sell/own listings to subpages that you can click up if you
want to see them.  It won't censor "x-theme sucks" for you, but it moves it
further away from the first screen.  Again, this wasn't done just because
some party pooper was writing "sucks" on some entries -- mainly it was for
speed of display and bandwidth.  Some of the pages were getting excessively
huge, especially when viewing 10 full-view-mode sets at a time.

:-(

You know more about LUGNET server load than I do, but is it really that much
bandwidth to load some extra text?  Not to sound negative. . .but seeing this a
few minutes ago just depressed me.  The utility of the LUGNET database has just
decreased a fair bit for me.  I liked being able to, at a glance, see *who*
owned or wanted a set and *what* people had to say about it.  I can still dig
that information out, but now it's on four separate pages, with the associated
hassle (and slowness) of going to each page.[1]

As an alternative, could this be a feature that users could turn on and off?
(Not that I really *want* to have to turn cookies on every time I visit Lugnet,
but if it increases ease-of-use otherwise. . .)

[1]  I really dislike people spreading stuff out over several pages (um. . .on
topic. . .yeah!  Like the way you can only view 20 thumbnails at a time in the
LUGNET database).  Once it's there, I like to just read it.  If it's going to
take a while to load, that's fine, because I can go off and do something else
(like read LUGNET!).  But when I have to constantly go through the click, wait
for computers to recognize each other, wait for computers to talk to each
other, wait for page to download, etc, etc, without much content as a reward
for my waiting, I get frustrated, and think "Those jerks are just spreading it
out so I have to pointedly ignore more of their stupid banner ads."  Except
LUGNET doesn't have that motivation. . . (and Todd & Suz aren't jerks, natch.)
