Re: LUGNET's mention on LEGO.com---A Gray Area? INSIDE THE LEGO SET BOX

(...) I have a really good connection, and I'm having trouble getting it to load. Two different good connections, in fact, with the same result. When it *did* load the other day, it was so miserably slow to actually try to post that I gave up. (...) (23 years ago, 29-Feb-04, to lugnet.general)

Re: New LUGNET server hardware details

(...) That summarizes it pretty well. SATA is something like five times cheaper per byte, and that's not even counting that we'd need a more expensive motherboard with a SCSI controller. Right now, disk isn't really the bottleneck for the load, so (...) (23 years ago, 29-Feb-04, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: New LUGNET server hardware details

(...) Excellent point. Looks like there's three differentm steppings for this particular CPU model, and any of the first two can be mixed freely, but the third can't. I've messed with all this stuff before, but it doesn't hurt to be reminded of it, (...) (23 years ago, 29-Feb-04, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  New LUGNET server hardware details

So, we've purchased our cool new servers, from Cambridge, MA vendor "PCs for Everyone". Todd and I and several other friends have gotten systems from them before, and have been extremely pleased -- they know their stuff, including Linux, which is (...) (...) Well, that's where the legal-words thing comes in. Maybe that category is actually broad enough to include us -- or could be, simply with the addition of a new mission statement. But maybe it has to be more focused than that. Maybe it fits (...) (23 years ago, 26-Feb-04, to lugnet.admin.finance)

(...) I'm no tax expert, let alone a lawyer. But I'm not sure that Lugnet would fit under the 501(c)(3) definition -- a "charitable, educational, religious, literary, or scientific". And given that words in legalese don't mean what they mean in (...) (23 years ago, 26-Feb-04, to lugnet.admin.finance)

  Re: AFOLs - The comic!

(...) Well, sure -- that's exactly why it hits so hard. If something's just a "day job", and some bureaucratic change causes disruption, one can easily shrug and say, "oh well, it's not like it's anything that *matters*". But seriously disrupt (...)
