Here's my net net on this discussion. The 2148/3442 (same design, different colors) design is flawed. A 2x2 turntable plate does not provide enough degrees of freedom. There are several other possible designs that do. The 6367, the 4549, and other (...) (26 years ago, 24-Mar-99, to lugnet.dear-lego, lugnet.build)

I agree with John concerning the current state that most Lego enthusiasts share, is the lack of bulk bricks from TLG, and the necessity of buying certain sets. From: Eric Brok <brok@fcjsvc.hvu.nl> (...) The new gear looks very cool. It looks like the 16t gear, but it appears that it can be used as a crown gear or a normal gear. I have discovered a very clever way of removing the printing from small Lego elements - forget brake fluid, various astringents, etc. and try this: simply put the element in your pocket every day for several months! :) .....well, it works for (...) (26 years ago, 24-Mar-99, to lugnet.general)

For me the most notable reason why our little market isn't perfect is that IMO we are in a constant state of short supply on most elements (because of TLG's unwillingness to offer bulk), not to mention that most sets are not available through Lego (...)
