Here is my first attept at making a steam engine, the more-or-less famous Blue
Train (cars still to come):
More info & pics of the original engine and the model can be found at
MOCpages

Great job, though I wish there were more and closer pictures of it, it looks
like you used some great techniques. How did you do the white walls of the
drivers? Paint? Any chance you could take a close up of both the drivers and
small wheels with the white walls? Ive been wanting to add white walls to a
few of my own steam engines, but Ive been debating on how to actually do it.
Ill be looking forward to more.

Im really liking this also...lots of detail and nice building techniques,
inparticluar the main boiler shape. The whole thing reminds me of the 9F Ive
just built in many ways.

This is a great MOC and I love the colors. As others have mentioned, the white
on the drivers really sets them off. Was that paint, white-out, white ink,
other? I like the way you shrouded the rear wheels. A very nice touch. The
boiler design is something I havent seen before. Very interesting. Are the
rubber bands there for any support function or are they just being used as
decoration? Again, great work. For a first attempt at a steam engine, Id say
you absolutely nailed it. You definitely have some talent for building
steamies. I cant wait to see your future work.
Best Regards,

Thanks to everyone for the comments. Ive now uploaded more pictures of the
engine and cars (both original cars and the model) to
MOCpages. The lights are now also
installed (the white LEDs are powerful), powered by a LokSound decoder (I love
the chuff chuff it makes!)
To answer some questions.
The white paint is actually a Pilot marker (Ive heard that an Uni Posca
would work as well or even better). I tried the correcting fluid as well,
but the result wasnt as good.
The boiler is a bit clumsy and hard to keep straight, but Im quite happy
with the result. It consists of a lot of 1x1 bricks with studs on 4 sides
(at a 30° angle towards each other), and plates to get the distance. Very
tight in there, indeed.
The rubber bands are just for decoration, although they do help making sure
things dont fall apart :) Id prefer them to be the same color as the
original, but we cant have all we want...
Cheers,
Matija

The pictures are great and so are the coaches :)
Thats interesting about the pilot marker, only this week have I been
experimenting with one for the wheels of the Flying Scotsman Im currently
building and found it to get rubbed off very quickly by the connecting rods (and
paint did too)......have you not had this trouble yet?
Is this DCC equiped if your using a decoder?

I had it while building, but then I was doing a lot around the wheels.
I must say I havent run the train a lot since it was done (and new paint
put), but so far there is no problem.

Yes, LokSound is a DCC decoder (and a good one in my opinion, albeit not the
cheapest).

Just a short followup - a video of the train in its full glory (running,
with lights, sound and steam) can be found
here.
