This is a great MOC and I love the colors. As others have mentioned, the white on the drivers really sets them off. Was that paint, white-out, white ink, other? I like the way you shrouded the rear wheels. A very nice touch. The boiler design is something I haven’t seen before. Very interesting. Are the rubber bands there for any support function or are they just being used as decoration? Again, great work. For a first attempt at a steam engine, I’d say you absolutely nailed it. You definitely have some talent for building steamies. I can’t wait to see your future work.

Thanks to everyone for the comments. I’ve now uploaded more pictures of the engine and cars (both original cars and the model) to MOCpages. The lights are now also installed (the white LEDs are powerful), powered by a LokSound decoder (I love the chuff chuff it makes!)

To answer some questions. The white paint is actually a Pilot marker (I’ve heard that an Uni Posca would work as well or even better). I tried the correcting fluid as well, but the result wasn’t as good.

The boiler is a bit clumsy and hard to keep straight, but I’m quite happy with the result. It consists of a lot of 1x1 bricks with studs on 4 sides (at a 30° angle towards each other), and plates to get the distance. Very tight in there, indeed.

The rubber bands are just for decoration, although they do help making sure things don’t fall apart :) I’d prefer them to be the same color as the original, but we can’t have all we want...

Cheers,
Matija
