| Hi,
I just finished converting an LDRAW-based model to an LDD-based model, and I
uploaded the model to the factory.[1]
http://shop.lego.com/Product/?p=LFH002&mid=C2C606CB-5FB2-45D9-A206-A4CED4D90453
It's a boxcar that I designed for the Millyard
(http://www.see-sciencecenter.org/Indexnews.html scroll to the middle
http://www.nelug.org/gallery/). I don't know if it will be used at the Millyard,
but thats a different story :) The model features a detailed undercarriage, a
gently sloped roof, and home made doors that can be opened and closed.
I am considering creating a version with unbuffered trucks since 2x3 plates with
one hole are part of the LDD pallet.

1. part 2431 is incorrectly mapped in the ldraw.xml file. If you edit the
ldraw.xml file to map ldraw part 2431 to LDD part 2431 then 1x4 tiles in red
will import correctly. Similarly, if you know the ldraw part number for the 1x4
dashboard tile you can fix the mapping of that part too. Unfortunately, I do not
know that part number. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, well, then
you probably shouldn't be mucking around in the ldraw.xml file :)

Hi Chris,
I really like this boxcar a lot! I'm contemplating ordering one, although I
have to consider how this 8-wide car will look with my 6-wide BNSF and ATSF
locomotives.
Is there are reason you didn't post this to .announce.moc? In a recent thread I
asked if posting LEGO Factory models there was okay and the consensus seemed to
be yes:

I don't mean to single you out, but I'm just surprised that some of the recent
LEGO Factory creations are not showing up in .announce.moc (and thus not showing
up on the LUGNET sidebar because of the auto-weighing done). For the success of
LEGO Factory, and (in)directly the future of 9V Trains, I think it's important
that great MOCs like this get as much exposure as possible.
Again, didn't mean to single you out and of course feel free to post your MOCs
however you choose.
Regards,
Paul D.

Thanks Paul! I guess old habits die hard. I just rarely ever think to
post to .announce.moc. I guess I'll go do that now.
Again, thanks for your compliment, but I don't know if this box car is
something that you would want to run behind the LEGO BNSF. I took a
quick picture so that you could make a size comparison for yourself.

I tend to make my engines big. Not only do I make them wider and longer
than LEGO engines, but they tend to be taller too. You know though...
you could always come over to the dark side :)

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the quick picture. I was trying to figure out some way I could
recreate that scene in LDraw to do a virtual comparison. You saved me a lot of
trouble. While your picture does show that the boxcar is a bit out of scale
with the BNSF, it also shows how great a brick-built version of the boxcar
looks. You are tempting me to the dark side... The thing is everything I have
already is in 6-wide and I don't have room in my house for track layouts with
the curve-straight-curve arrangement used by 8-widers.
Hmmmm... maybe your design could be converted to 6-wide... :-)
Thanks again,
-Paul

I should point out that the ladders on my brick-built version are a
little different. I used cut up pod-racer tubing and 1x1 plates with
horizontal clips to make the ladders on the original.

Parts of it could, but unfortunately not the roof :( The roof is made
using 1x4 tiles.
