Submitted for your approval, a MOC that’s been around for a while, but never posted:

Originally built for Scibrick displays last November, the drill was never in my possesion long enough for photography. I’ve had it for about 4 months now, and here we are.

This was built with playability in mind. The cabin is composed mostly of old-style hinge 4x4 plates, which can be flipped open for fig-manipulation. The boom raises into place, and the drill shaft can extend a bit, about 1.5x the height of the cabin.

In most mining & exploration activities, earthbound or not, various drills are used for core sampling & production blasting. Here we see the drill chipping away at Teddy Welsh’s Lunar Cheese Mine, which proves that cutting the cheese doesn’t always involve explosions.

As always, PLMKWYT - I live for your approval.

Nice detail. I love the assymetrical treads. Very cool.

Thanks, Mike.  When I started, the treads were the only thing I was set on.
Glad you liked it/them.

This moc has a certain quiet dignity, like a WW2 British war widow.

Very playable indeed, lots of moving parts to increas replay value. Also a nice assortment of potential weapons clipped to the cab for the more violent minded. The drill is where the money is, and it has an impressive reach. The interior was pretty standard fare, but solid.

Mining for Teddy’s cheese....I take back the whole thing about quiet dignity. But I do find this moc an enjoyable summer thrill-ride that blew me through the back-wall of the theater. Nice MOC, Mr. Nick.

I think that this is good enough to be an official lego kit...hours of fun for the entire family. Although it should come with 2 minifigs and some kind of encarceration unit.

Moochin’ war widows....

If one needs to regulate on any suckas makin’ a play for one’s drill rig, research has shown that an EZ-Reach mounted circular saw is effective in checkin’ any foos.

Your ticket paid for the whole seat, but you only needed the eeeeeeeeeedge.

Funny you mention that - I actually included two figs the first time I sent it out, intending the one to run a survey scope or cap suckas with the circular saw as necessary, to stuff them in the right-side storage boxes/incarceration units. It’s like your the west coast version of me - or I’m the pelvicly gifted version of you. Either way.

Wow, this opens out so conveniently yet closes together so neatly! You’ve designed it really, really well. Great stuff! I’m really looking forward to your 100-stud-long deep-drilling version... ;-)

Cheers,

Thanks Paul!  Plans for the 100-stud boom were scrapped, as core samples
indicate that at a certain depth, the moon's rock turns bley.  >:o

(sidebar) ‘Keith Goldman’ and ‘quiet dignity’...2 things I’d thought I’d never see in the same text set. Like nuts and gum...2 great tastes that taste great together.

Now, for the MOC. Love it. That’s it. Yep. I saw this in the pics of the event a few months back and thought it was an amazing testament to ‘playability’. The flip top, as mentioned, really knocks it up a level from good to great. And the sliding drill? Come on...how could you not date that thing’s sister behind it’s back, even though you still secrectly have a thing for it, but hey, it’s been years since that day behind the gym when...um. Right. Great build, man.

Cheers, -Gil

I never thought I’d see ‘Keith Goldman’, ‘tastes’, and ‘nuts’ in print together, but.... oh wait, yes I did.

Wow, this is great!  Excellent design.  It would be nice to see it drill
deeper.

I like the extending drill. I think it’s a pretty good design, and it incorporates more playability than Fradel’s mom.

The F-Dog has been nothing but cordial to you.  And this, THIS.... is how you
repay him.  Well done.  But, forewarned is forearmed, Fradel's mom will rock
your world in Ms. PacMan.  She suffers no fools.
