I went to one of my favorite toy stores today, and they had Pick-a-Brick!

Severna Park Annapolis

The store is called Be Beep, and aside from having Pick-a-Brick, they also have a LEGO Expo every year (April 27th - May 11th this year), where you can display a model in their front window. And the staff is great!

The PaB bags come in two sizes, a $3.95 size and a $6.95 size. I filled both size bags up with 1x4 plates, and the smaller size was a little more cost-effective - 2.67 cents per piece versus 3.44 cents per piece in the bigger bag (or 148 plates versus 203 in the big bag).

The part selection is similar to the Tysons Corner Brand Retail store, albeit not as extensive. I got 1x4 plates in sand blue, as well as 2x4 plates in green.

All in all, very cool, and I hope PaB in independent stores catches on. Of course, now I’ll never be able to leave without making at least one purchase...

There was an article in last Sunday's Baltimore Sun about the Brick Testament
book and website.  It was the 30 Novemver 2003 issue, and the feature was titled
"Building a colorful, accessible Bible, brick by Lego brick".

There is a version of the article on the paper's website (you have to register
to read it), but I don't have an actual physical copy of it.

I wasn't given advance warning of the publication date for this one, so I'm left
posting here to see if anyone who lives in that area might just happen to still
have their Sunday paper around, and see if they woudln't mind sending me a copy
of the article.  It would be most appreciated.

I'll try to get at least the text of the article up on the Brick Testament press
page soon, but I'm away from home right now and can't update it just yet.

Adam --

I find it hard to believe that the Kingston MA TRU store had run out, because I
was there the same day, June 30th 1999, and they had 9 sets (8 after I left the
store 8-) The price was about $138 ($129.99 plus tax).

There were 3 sets on the bottom shelf, and 6 more (in two different places) on
the top-top shelf where the store keeps their "overstock". That's a total of 8
8480 Space Shuttle sets in 3 separate locations. I was there at about 8:30 PM
and the store closed at 9:30 and the odds of 8 other people buying that set in
an hour are too low for me to believe.

Sorry to bother you Baltimore folks with this but that's where Adam and Rob
Doucette were when they started this discussion <: I've put followup-to the
Boston group.

- Robert

In lugnet.loc.us.md.bal, Adam Payne writes:
Well, I was only visiting Baltimore, I'm actually living  up in Boston
(I found your message b/c it mentioned the Contruction Site).  I tried
to get a shuttle from the Kingston, MA TRU, but they were gone.  [...]
