Chicago House of Bricks will once again be held in conjunction with To Be Continued! A fine cut of LEGO will be served with savory science-fiction, buttered fantasy, and field-fresh gaming. But the ‘piece de resistance’ will be the fun camaraderie had by all. Come join us May 12-14 in Downer’s Grove, Illinois!

2BeCONtinued brings together fans from all domains. Last years attendees mingled with celebrities, comedians, pirates, artists, and more. This year looks to be just as exciting. Though HoB is held in conjunction with a science fiction convention, all themes are invited to attend (the train layout was a crowd favorite last year).

Visit our website for more information.

We hope to see you there!

I’m very happy to announce that registration for Chicago House of Bricks at To Be CONtinued 5: Legends is now online. Prices and information for registration can be accessed here.

Registration is not exclusive to House of Bricks and will allow attendees access to all areas of the convention. To Be CONtinued 5: Legends is being held at the Doubletree Guest Suites and Conference Center in Downers Grove, which can be seen here. For Dealer information, please click on the Dealers link on the sidebar.

What’s really neat is that the Guest of Honor of this convention is Weta Workshop, the effects facility that was responsible for the visual effects to all of the Lord of the Rings movies and King Kong.

Currently, plans are for a Great Ball Contraption and sci-fi models. Attendees are encouraged to bring models that tie into the movies mentioned above, as there is a nice SPACE to fill!

If you have questions or comments, please post them to lugnet.events.houseofbricks, as others may have similar questions. Questions can also be sent to HoB@2BeCONtinued.com which will forward to me as well as other members of the ToBeCONtinued staff. Please refer to the following list of event coordinators for any specific question.

A couple of years ago at the Odyssey of the Mind competition in Knoxville,
TN several AFOL's got together one evening.  Both Steve Bliss and I will be
at Ames the last week in May for this years competition.

This is an ALL CALL for AFOL's that will be in the area, either with a team,
on business, you live there or just want to meet Steve or me.  Date, time
and place are still to be determined but it will probably be at a resturant,
probably later in the week (Wed. - Fri.), 7:30 or 8ish on.

Well, it's all said and done, and I'm now officially employed.  I'll be
working in the Drafting Dept. at American Athletic Industries
(www.americanathletic.com) in Jefferson, IA.  Got my apartment secured
today; gonna move next week/weekend.  I start at AAI on the 15th.

Now all I have to worry about is getting a phone, changing my address, etc.
And I hope I can get 'net access ASAP.  I might have to go w/out LUGNET for
awhile... 8^o

Drinks all around!

Hi all,

Stopped by the Knoxville Walmart this morning.  I have a bit of a story to
tell...

I've been watching a pile of MTT's ever since Walmart started clearancing
things.  Until today, none of them moved.  They were priced at $30.  I
walked in this morning to check on them, and the toy section people were
putting all the clearance items on rolling racks.  I asked what they were
going to do with them (for fear they were sending them back to a warehouse
or something), and found out that in 5 minutes, they would be clearancing
everything even further.

After wading thru a slew of "clearance moms", I got my hands on:

3 MTT's for $15.
1 Watto's Junkyard for $15.
1 Excavation Searcher for $15.
1 T-Rex Transport for $15.

So if any of you local fellas want to give it a try, there was still several
MTT's, a whole ton of soccer stuff, Adventurers Dino sets, and some other
goodies.  For those who don't know, Walmart is just off 92/5 on 14.

Hi all,

Watching my local news this morning (WHOTV, Channel 13 for you local guys)
and saw a bit on 6th grade students from around the state going to ISU in
Ames and competing in a Mindstorms competition.  Each team had to build
robots to accomplish certain tasks, such as dumping bricks into • containers,
shooting baskets, and rescuing "scientists" (Arctic figs).

-Chris

Sounds like the latest FLL (First Lego League) competition - Arctic Impact:

Thanks!

I'm glad to hear they haven't vanished yet. I used to live in Corvallis, a few
minutes from Albany, but unfortunately it's about 2000 miles from me here in
Southeastern Iowa.

I had been watching that group and hadn't heard them mentioned lately, which is
why I asked. I seem to recall some people spotting them in Michigan, which is
Midwestern-ish, but even further away from me than the Quad Cities. :-)

Hey, everybody, I was checking out Des Moines' TRU's and found 2001 sets.

They had all Life on Mars, excluding 7317 , the big one.  They also had all
of the expansion LEGO Studios stuff, excluding 1353.

I bought Mono Jet, 7310 and Stunt Man Catapult, 1356

Movie Backdrop Studio was overpriced, at $60 USD for 209 pcs.
Explosion Studios was $35 USD
Car Stunt Studio was not there
Dino Head Attack was $10 USD
Temple of Gloom was $7 USD
Stunt Man Catapult was $4 USD
Cameraman was $4 USD

Note: 1351 did include motor.

No prices available for Life On Mars.

Please see lugnet.reviews for a review of 7310, since 1356 has already been
reviewed.
