Hallo Paul,

I am not quite sure if everyone here is able to read Dutch?!!!

Hello everybody,

of LEGO user groups.

The purpose of this European Federation of LEGO user groups is to
exchange information about the organization of the different LEGO user
groups, the organization of events, as well small events as big events
like LEGO world, and also to synchronize agenda's to minimize the
overlap of events in different countries.

Another advantage of an European Federation of LEGO users group is that
it will be easier to communicate with LEGO and that white gaps are being
identified.

If you would like to discuss about the possibiliteis of an European
Federation of LEGO user groups, please contact me, Paul Koelewijn.

could they be running a converter on their exiasting prices - which are well

That's probably what they did, which is a shame because they could have
seized the opportunity to level the prices throughout the euro-zone.

I think it's probably decided on a per country basis,
taking into account local taxes, shipping costs and pricing habits
(.99 is much more common in Germany than France, for example).

Still that does not explain why a certain set has the same price in two
countries while another set differs as much as EUR 10,- in price in those
same two countries. Shipping costs are calculated seperately so should not
be of influence.

After the introduction of the new European currency three days ago, I was
very curious about what would happen to S@H's prices in the euro-zone. What
now follows are my findings (which are by no means scientific - it just
illustrates how weird their current pricing policy is)

(snip comparison)

(Your curiosity saved me the trouble of investigating myself, so I thank you
for that)

To me this comes across as really strange. It is almost as though someone at
LD is making up these prices at random. I'd like your thoughts on this. But
above all I hope LD is reading this and start scratching behind their ears
and does something about it so that everyone gets the same amount of Lego
for their Euros!

Hmmm...
I had noticed previously some differences in prices, which I attributed to
different transportation costs. I never realized such differences were
chaotic. You are absolutely right, LEGO must take actions to ensure at least
more coherent prices.

On the side, I'd like to see something else: S@H throughout Europe. The
currency is the same, and they ship from their headquarters, so why not? I
mean, it is not as if the had to implement a hotline or so, all the
structure is already there; the only new thing would be a couple of
postcodes for the Billund Post Office to handle...

Pedro

(BTW, I noticed you posted in Eurozone S@H destinations. I also X-posted to
other Eurozone countries; who knows, maybe we can show some unity on this :-)

Hi all,

From this day on (October 1st, 2001), it is mandatory for all shops wihtin
EMU with more than seven workers to present their prices both in Euro and
local currency. This obligation will extend at least until January 2002,
depending on the member state.
Although I know that the unnoficial Lego online shops do not meet this
requirement, it would be interesting to know who has already begun to use
Euro in price lists. The new currency is coming fast (3 months), and noone
here seems to realize the potential difficulties of the change.

So, the question is: ARE YOU READY?

(Also posted in .au/.ca/.us because of potential interest for business)

Hi all,

The European Central Bank has officially presented the Euro banknotes
yesterday, so I thought this was the best moment to ask: are all of you
ready for the upcoming change in currency throughout Europe?
I mean, those of you who live inside the eurozone and want to make deals
within the same zone can now use the same money! Isn't it great?

A new wide-spanning newsgroup for LEGO enthusiasts in Europe (European Union

massive crossposting in the case of wide topic discussions such as a
European LEGO Fest.

The great experience of meeting in person other Lego enthusiasts at the
MindFest and at some Italian Legofests, makes me dream of a European Legofest.

Some remarks about this topic (talking freely):

- Saying "European" I use the term in its geographical meaning. I don't care
at all about any political issue or about countries that are or are not
members of the EU.

- "European" means that it takes place somewhere in Europe to make it easier
for European people to join, but the gathering should be IMO open to anybody
coming from anywhere in the world.

- This project is meaningful only if it collects enough interest and
participants. A meeting of three people could be fun but it's not a Legofest
IMHO.

- To minimise the effort for the participants to join the meeting, it should
take place at a location very close to the geographical "center of gravity" of
the incoming people. This sounds me like north of France, but it obviously
depends on where the coming people are from, and mostly depends on who is
going to candidate to organise the meeting.

- Organising such a meeting will very likely require a strong logistic effort.
The local group who kindly offer to support the meeting in their country must
be aware that this means to find a proper place to meet, cheap accommodations
for the ones who sleep there, food supplies, etc.

- The participants might be asked to pay a small subscription fee to help the
hosting group cover the costs.

- The meeting should last at least two days to allow people coming from let's
say 1000km to arrive and have time to enjoy the party. A weekend would
probably be ideal.

- If this project takes off, we probably need a lot of time to set it up. We
could plan it for next spring or summer. Summer vacation period may be a good
period for those who want to take this as chance to have a trip with the
family.

- I'm not particularly concerned about the language. Most of us non-English
Europeans speak English to some degree.

Am I alone in this dream or is there anybody who shares it?

Your comments and thoughts are very welcome .
