Greetings and salutations fellow Lego enthusiasts. We are pleased to
announce the birth of the Vancouver (BC, Canada) Lego Club.
During the past several years our own Lego Hobby blossomed and continues
to escalate in new and wondrous directions. By way of the Internet we
have observed numerous other adult Lego enthusiasts, and are quite
anxious to become acquainted with others in person.
Membership into the Vancouver Lego Club is open to those who enjoy any
and all aspects of Lego products (Trains, Mindstorm's, Technic, System
etc.). We would like to meet once every four to six weeks for the
purpose of creating a most enjoyable Lego community in Vancouver,
Canada.
As a result of this club being quite new, we are certain to go through
some growing pains, and ask for both your patience and assistance if you
wish. We have created an Internet web site devoted to the Vancouver
Lego Club -- please understand it will grow over time and hopefully
become reflective of the Vancouver Lego community.

OK, just created a new newsgroup lugnet.org.ca (parallel to the newsgroup
lugnet.org.us group) for focused discussions about Canada-based user-group
formation, etc., as needed.
Lemme know (just ask) if you want a newsgroup/mailing list specially for your
VLC club... It's very easy for me to set up, and it would be subscribeable
via email as a mailing list

Just wondering, what about a club for Vancouver Island (VILC)? Unless there is
one already and I was just totally oblivious..... Just something to throw about

You might have also mentioned the qualification that membership is only
open to people ages 15 and over.
Although I would certainly qualify (by a factor I do not wish to brag
about), most of my kids (one of which I am almost certain would be
extremely interested in this sort of thing) do not.
I hadn't had the opportunity to talk to them about this yet, and in
light of the age restriction, I'm not sure if I should even mention it
to my oldest child now.

Erin,
There is a informal club in victoria, based around Randy A, and asorted other
people. I missed out on meeting Linc Smith, but Randy, Silas and so on have
had a chance to play with my trains...we set them up in Randy's backyard last
summer right before I left BC.
I'll be back in a year (well, a year 2 months), and I am sure Randy A is doing
things between then and now (in fact, they had a meeting not too long ago,
because if you look at what Randy posted, he kind of kidded me about it...)
I'm sure if you E-mail Randy, he would be happy to give you the next date that
a 'meeting' is planned...they tend to be sporadic, at best :) We'd rather
waste our time playing with lego than discussing how to organize to play with
lego.

Well James, it already happened. We had a Lego gathering two days ago and
Erin attended, all the way from Nanaimo! He brought down an amazing cruise
ship that he built (I took around 70 pictures of it, yes it was that big).
We should be putting some pics on the Our Creations web site soon, so you
can take a gander.
P.S. We had a couple other new attendees as well. So I was figuring that
by the time you return we will need to rent a hall for meetings!

Greetings, Mark
Upon instigation of the Vancouver Lego club, we wished to have very few
rules. We also realized that overtime the rules themselves would change
around the actual membership rather than an idealized vision. However, I
hope you can understand we needed a starting point. Your feedback is very
much appreciated, and is very important and relevant.
We agonized somewhat in reference to having an age restriction and
eventually settled on what exists as of this date. The only reason we
wished to have some sort of an age restriction was because we did not wish
to have young children around that could be disruptive to the events
themselves. What would have been more accurate was to have a maturity age
restriction, but this is not possible :-) Be that as it may, Lego
enthusiasts under the age of 15 would be quite welcome with an adult
guardian. This is something that should be stated on the web page, yes? If
anyone can prepare some verbiage that would better explain the
aforementioned, that would be wonderful.
We would be very open to hearing the opinions of other individuals --
especially other Lego club members from elsewhere in the world, as to what
kind of restrictions they have on members. We did not wish to exclude
anyone, but only wished to have successful gatherings of Lego enthusiasts.
Mark, you and your children would be most welcome. Any sleights perceived
are not intended.

Ya, but now I have 500+ pieces of straight railway track of my own :) so, it
had better be a _big_ hall :)
That, or it will be in my basement...we hope to buy a house when we come back,
so it can wait and see :)

Well, as I type, my cruise ship is in about 10,000 pieces on the floor (But, I
still have the pictures to remember it by). Right now I have five ideas
floating around in my head to what to build next....should it be a giga-mall?
BC ferry with terminal (Or Pacific Cat with Drydock)? Airport with 727
jetliner? Stadium? Nuclear sub?....So many ideas! So little LEGO....;-)
