For those of you who haven't come across a 2000 catalogue. I guess I can
confirm some stuff. The S@H insert has one price in US$ and one phone number
in the US I assume. Lego Direct will apparently look after the GST/HST for
us.

Oh yeah. prices are going to be higher for those S@H orders.

Yes and no. We'll pay "applicable duties and taxes" which I believe are just
GST/PST. The 2000 LEGO Direct catalogue that someone found a bit back has some
details:

As a slight aside, has anyone placed a big order from BC or Alberta from
S@H? I was set to order a Palm V from chapters.ca, but when I looked at the
total, they added in PST. I called and didn't get much of an answer from
the rep.

PS It looks like I'll piece together my final order with S@H Canada. Kinda
sad. Hope nobody lost their jobs, but I'm sure many did.

I just ordered 10 roof brick packs, and two small sets yesterday; does that
make it a big order? Not sure if it went through though, hafta check.

Every order I've had from S@H (some of which have indeed been large) has had
GST but not PST. This is a good thing, since Alberta doesn't have a PST. :)

Probably not. I'm thinking the BC "government" probably has put a minimum
PST amount they are willing to collect. Like say $20. So, I'd be thinking
orders in excess of $300.

I do not have information about S@H Canada closing, but it sounds like it
could have some good and bad results.
Anyway, I just wanted to say that on the mini-catalog for this year seen
here-->
http://www.brickshelf.com/scans/catalogs/2000/d00am-125dpi/d00am-08.html
that the printing for Lego Direct does not mean the Lego Direct that we are
all thinking of.
Lego Direct as printed on these little mini catalogs -->see 1999 version
here-->
http://www.brickshelf.com/scans/catalogs/1999/d99am-75dpi/d99am-01.html
is ONLY a different name for Shop At Home.
Check some of your old shipping boxes from them. The address will be LDM
with either a Connecticut, USA address or LDM, Markham, ON. LDM is short
for Lego Direct Marketing--just a different name for S@H used for the in-set
catalogs.
This is not new. I first noticed this difference in naming in 1997 seen
here-->
http://www.brickshelf.com/scans/catalogs/1997/d97na/d97na-01.html
Just thought that we should all be aware of this before a huge discussion
begins.....

Also, I dialed all of the different phone numbers listed and they all go
right to Shop @ Home....
So, evidence tells me that LDM is just S@H renamed for the in-box mini
catalogs. The phone numbers, physical addresses, and prices are identical.

If the debate is about whether or not S@H Canada is closing, it's not a
debate. It was first mentioned on RTL many months ago and when I placed an
order soon afterwards, I confirmed it with the rep I was speaking with.

PS Has anyone heard from Gail Meagher? I was just checking loc.ca and saw
all her old S@H weekly special posts. I know the weekly sales are gone, but
she was always a regular poster.

I did not mean to imply that S@H Canada will not be closing. I have read
the discussion and understand that.
It just seemed to me that there might be some confusion about the wording on
the in-box mini catalogs. I was just trying to eliminate confusion
regarding Lego Direct Marketing versus the upcoming LegoDirect service.

Oops sorry! For me the possible name change is trivial. I just assumed you

My theory if anyone wants to hear it is that Chpaters would be required to
collect PST on any items because the store maintains a physical presence ( I
assume there must be a store somewhere) In BC. Shop at Home only maintains a
physical presence in Ontario so therfore PST. You should all move to
Atlantic Canada where its 15% GST on everything. WOO HOO (yeah right).
Because the prov portion is blended in all companies selling hear are
reequired to charge it as a federal rate.

Ya, you should not get hit with the PST if it is being shipped out of province.
(except if in Atlantic Canada...)
If it is being shipped from Ontario to BC, then the only tax payable is the GST
. You are responsible for paying the BC sales tax yourself, not the company
charging you for it (again, provided you are getting it from out of province).

Sorry to be late, to much work to do,
I do speek frech but the only diference with you is that it will be a sale rep
in Canada that will speek to me(not many poeple speek that beautifull langage
down in the US). I will still have to pay in US$, pay both GST and Quebec PST
(15.025% total :-( ).
By the way just past a big order last weeks, should have made it bigger like
always.
See you some time next years when I'll have less work to do.
