Hi all,
I present Cliffton Castle:
(pic=link to
gallery) deeplinks at bottom of post : )
Cliffton Castle, known locally as the Castle of Three Trees (all
right, there are six trees if you want to be picky...), is an outpost of the
great Black Knight Empire. It serves primarily as a heavily fortified beacon
post
but also has a small harbour front
.
Its name comes from Cliffton Lodge which once dominated the clifftop
before the gradually expanding fortifications displaced it.
Pics of the 20 odd interiors (with some location references) can be
found here
And if youre really interested, my faviorite small details are in this
folder (pic=link)
Please let me know what you think... I normally include a few fun
details but this time I can only offer you the chance to spot two cunning Wolf
Pack raiders...
Thanks for looking and God Bless,
Nathan
ohh... a few deeplinks:
street,
apple seller,
Wayfarers Inn interior, and
another street.
.Pirates because of the building style and warf...
.loc.in because that is where the MOC currently resides...

Very nice work. An impressive build. The landscaping and how the castle is built
around it is excellent.
Im not too sure about this house. An interesting color scheme. I really like these
guys working.
Clever use of the
island baseplate.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! I am glad you appreciated the landscaping (I alwys consider it my best
work...) Im sorry the oar maker isnt to your taste...One, or two colours too
many? : ) Actually I really needed it to lighten the whole MOC and focus the eye
into the cove to make it feel larger... I am also quite proud of the men
working... As to the island baseplate... Ive been waiting to do that for
ages...
God Bless,
Nathan

Its just my opinion, so I dont know how much it matters, but yeah, it seems
like it has too many colors. Right now it has white, blue, yellow, black, and
green (oh and brown details and a red sign). I think that if you replaced the
white on the first floor with black and made the roof all blue, it would look
nice. Not sure about the windows and door being green. Id be curious to see
those in blue. (Unfortunately, I dont think the windows you used come in blue,
or at least arent very commmon.)
But, hey thats just how I would do things, if you dig a more colorful building,
then great!

Good points... I tried a blue roof originally (no pics unfortunately...) and it
did look better on the building (as did taking away some yellow) but it made the
pier loose influence on the whole MOC so I went for loud for the sake of the
overall...
Thanks and God Bless,
Nathan

I like it a lot. The big thing for me is the feel of a living community.
The variety of structures helps there as does the landscaping. The town on
a hill feel is very effective.
Good interiors too, but I couldn't satisfy one of my favorite pastimes of
trying to figure out how a minifig gets everywhere. :-)

Thanks for the comments! Rest assured there are stairs, doors, access
etc.. to everywhere, they just don't make for as interesting pics to the average
observer ; )
Thanks again and God Bless,

Im not a castle guy, but this is very impressive. I like the inclusion of
water and trees as natural elements. The building style incorporating stone and
wood buildings is very nice. And of course the inclusion of all the little
details like depicting people in the streets puts it all over the top.
Very nicely done.

Thanks much! Pleased to build something that can be appreciated across heavily
defended theme frontiers ; )

Hey Nathan, there is alot to like in here: aysmetrical castle, giant beacon,
water feature, sculpted terrain...and plenty of action to please the mainline
hot weather crowd. Excellent attention to detail throughout. My personal
favorites are the harbor...that rock jetty, and the dirt path that leads up to
the castle. Good stuff Nathan.

Magnificent creation!
I love the beacon, the waterfront and the general cramped/busy-ness of the whole
settlement.
What you need, of course, is a really nice ship to park at that wharf! ;-)
Cheers

Thanks! Funny you would want to ruin it with a ship (LOL). I considerd this for
a while but it would have to be very small so as not to dwarf the dock and I am
not as skilled as some in that department...
Thanks again and God Bless,

Nathan,
This rocks! Even though you took a lot of pictures, Im finding it frustrating,
because of all that you included, I would just want to spend a very long time
looking at it in person.
Its an incredible MOC, very well integrated, how long did it take you to build
it?
Thanks,
George

A lot of pics I know... but I found it frustrating to capture being
there... It definately looks better in person but you could say the same of
many MOCs.
Incidently, you replying makes me consider the greatness of Lugnet...
3 years ago I posted my first MOCs to .castle
http://news.lugnet.com/castle/?n=11832 and you replied... Since then with all
the great comments and inspiration Lugnet has helped me improve steadily.
Oh, it took just over a month and a half to complete...
Thanks and God Bless,
Nathan
