I've been inspired, recently, by many original creations to experiment with
mixing parts from other themes to create unique characters and/or armies. I'm
hoping to get some feedback about the appropriateness (is that a word?!) of
using the following items with the castle theme - let me know if any of these
would be egregiously out of place or improper due to time period, etc.:
1. I was thinking of using the black samurai helmets on some of the Fright
Knights figs - the grey and dk grey are usable too, but I like the black.
2. What about using the triangular hats from the pirates theme for a nobleman's
hat? or is that too nautical or maritime?
3. And how 'bout the pirates cutlass for a more dignified nobleman's sword?
4. Is anyone using the samurai body armor for non-ninja knights?

I personally have an army of forest elves and I don't use the regular castle
swords for them. I use the pirate's cutlasses, just because they look better
in the hands of an elf than in the hands of a charging armored knight. I'm
also using the trans-blue spears located in one of the new Technic sets as a
magical weapon for the river elves leader, and I use a whole slew of other non-
castle pieces to build other things. I use the ninja wings on my wyverns.

I can't really think of a western equivalent of the japanese helmet, but I
wouldn't let that stop me if I liked it. It's purpose is the same as the
western helmet: save one's brains from a metal weapon.

Too obviously western europe from the wrong time period, but sticking in a few
for variety (merchants from far off lands?) wouldn't bug me.

Vaguely something like a falchion, which I wouldn't describe as a nobleman's
sword, though of course, you could use it as such.

Shave off those should guards. If you can't bring yourself to do that, you can
probably stiff get away with it. Body armor pieces are just too hard to get,
so I'm slack on purism.

Whenever I have skeletons running about, they for some reason tend to be
wearing the dark grey samurai helmets and samurai armor. It makes them look
quite a bit more menacing than just having naked skeletal warriors running
about. It's also nice that they're wearing armor that's very different from
the regular Castle guys - makes them seem like they're from a different time,
wearing the armor they were buried with...
Apart from that, I've used the samurai armor on my Dragoons (see a few posts
ago, this ng).
Other accessories from non-Castle that work well: my Royal Herald (which I
will put pictures of up shortly) uses a RK King body with a blue cape, the
Samurai Swordsman's head, and a blue bandanna on top - it sort of looks like
one of those medieval floppy hats. He's also carrying a WW bugle.
The Bat Lord looks far more menacing when you put a Stingrays head on him.
I've got 4 and I plan to use them in upcoming Castle setups as some sort of
inhuman race.
I've made a sort of spear/lance thing for one of my Dragoons (not pictured
though) out of a black antenna, a lightsaber handle, and an Aquazone harpoon.

Well, let's see:
1. I'm waiting for those new technic sets to show up so I can grab some
trans-blue spears for my Alpine King's men.
2. I'm using black dragon wings, Ninja facemasks, and maybe some Ninja
glide wings for the Army of the Dark Tower that will eventually invade my
castle realm. I might use some of the Samurai helmets too.
Using the cutlass for castle is a good idea, too.

I personally like the black helmets for Dragon Master figs, and my only dark
grey helmet fits on a Jedi Luke figure with black cloak as a wandering
adventurer...

I tend to think of these hats as being more peasant-like, and have set up a few
on my shopkeepers in the village.

The only people using these swords in my kingdom are female - the queen, her
handmaiden, a forestwoman, an innkeeper's wife... I don't know why, but I just
figured that these characters wouldn't carry the usual bulky swords, but would
rather wield more lightweight and skilful weapons like foils and sabres.

Again, the leader of my Dragon Masters bears this armour, if only to look
slightly different to the Royal Knights in their traditional plate-armour.

My Heralds use King Leo's body and wear the peasant coif. They are also
equipped with WW Bugles.

Never tried that one, but Darth Maul's head looks really evil in that helmet.
The eyes almost look like they're glowing. :)

Too bad they don't make silver light sabre blades or antennae. That'd be cool
on your lance.

The adventurers hat would also work as an alternative hat. The airman's cap
might work as a leather helmet.
Of course the adventurers backpack for a dungeon explorer, complete with
lance (10' pole) and a pick or other tool...
The pharaoh's headdress of course would work well, as would the mummy.
The Indian hair would make for a nice foreign princess.
The Indian heads would work nice for barbarians. Some of the Indian torsos
might work (most notably the brown one with the bone armor). The buffalo
hats might work.
The black wild west neckerchiefs of course would add a touch of mystery to
your outlaws, while a knight could have a white one hanging from his lance,
or worn (favor from his lady of course).
All the various treasures of course are fair game. I also save all the
sprues for additional treasure (the sprue for the coins is especially
useful).

The Armada chromed breastplate works well, and the morion helmet isn't that far
off to be drafted into use, also. I use the coin sprue as ingots of gold.
