Hi folks !

I'm a big castle fan, but i have a problem.
I am building a great army, but i wonder,
i have about 8 different armies, maybe more.
There's royal knights, forest men, fright nights,
those Majisto guys, the classic guys in about
10 different styles...

My question: who's a friend of who, and who isnt
Í mean i'm thinking of building one great bud guys army,
with the fright knights, bull's folk and the Majisto lads,
but dont they kill each other first ?

Like to hear from you on this matter !

And of course, the answer in the end is "whatever you like". :)

Hi folks !

Historically, medieval European armies were usually made up of numerous
factions.  Who allied with whom depended on the circumstances.  It was
also common for factions to change sides in the middle of battle.

My Crusader [Lion] men are one faction.  They have recruited some
Forestmen archers and yeomen into their regular forces.  A further group
of Forestmen tend to ally with the Crusader lords, but they are jealous
of their independence.

Another faction is the Royal Knights crowd.  Their leader is a cousin
and bitter rival of the Crusader leader.  They are likely to employ
mercenaries, especially crossbowmen.

Whichever faction is operating in their home territory can also mobilise
peasant levies, but these are ineffectual as anything but targets.

The Wolfpack are outlaws living mainly along the border between the
Crusader and Royal Knight lands.  They generally stay out of fights
unless their  'business" is threatened.  Then they side with whomever
looks like the winner.

Recently a new faction has appeared.  Based on the "robbers" from
Knight's Kingdom,  they are a rather primitive branch of the Crusader/RK
culture, inhabiting a poorer part of the land.

From across the sea comes the huge, sinister Dragonmaster horde.  Their
devices are fantastic and they are rumored to be sorcerors.

There are also a couple of Military Orders, including one of virgin
women.

From the various themes, the more generic-looking men-at-arms make up
formations of light, medium, and heavy infantry to fill out the ranks of
liveried nobles.

But that's just _my_ world.

It's really entirely up to you. It isn't really clear form eth legpo sets
themselves just who is friends with who. One set from the early nineties has
the Black Falcons besieging the Dragon Knights on a kind of wall with a
gateway. Another set from the same era has Black Falcons and Dragon Knights
seemingly friendly on a blue and black warship ship together.

It probably depends a lot on which factions you have most men from though.
Your two largest factions could be the two main opposing forces, with
reinforcements and allies from the others.

Also, don't be afraid to create your own factions different from the ones
Lego has put forward. If you (like me) don't think that a bunch of forestmen
or rogues need their own coat of arms, give the Wolfpack and Dark Forest
figs helmets and make them just another ordinary military faction. You can
still have bandits, peasants and outlaws as part of your world, but without
any kind of heraldic device at all. If you don't want the cross axe
crusaders and the lion crusaders to be on the same faction, or even side,
they don't have to be.

cheers

Magnus
