will get much attention from TLG. Especially with OS X. LDGLite is one of two
choices for the mac (the other being BrickDraw3D).

That goes to everybody. Please don't quit. This stuff (DAT) is NOT becoming
obsolete.

That's kind of funny -- DAT was really obsolete before it was created. It
was never a cutting-edge graphics description language.
The main asset of the "DAT Format" is the LDraw parts library. Excepting
maybe whatever element-resource is used by the building instruction people
in LEGO, I believe the LDraw library is the largest collection of LEGO
elements.

Agreed. It is 2.5 D rather than a 3 D solid modeling lang. That's prolly why
noone has done any really nifty shape bashing stuff like calculating
interferences...

No I believe Conan's collection is the largest collection of LEGO elements.
(oh, you mean *different* elements :-) and modeled, too ) <GD&R>

Sorry, should have said "largest collection of LEGO element descriptions".

Speaking of which is there a need for an update to the Mac binary for Ldglite?
I'm not *totally* absorbed by BrickDraw3D.

BrickDraw3D will become a full-fledged editor application in the coming
months. I'm preparing it for Mac OS X too. There'll be a release this
weekend with some basic model creation ability. The big hurdles are: writing
out DAT files to match what came in
(no information loss), and organizing a parts palette!

Lego's perception is that the Mac market is too small to add to their bottom
line. They are willing to put out a Mac product for the early early market
like Lego My Style (age: 4) but MacAddict says this product bores 4 year
olds. Too bad. From what I've seen, Creator is a product that does have
appeal (Marketed for Age 6 and up) but we're not gonna get it.
I'm not going to let my kids play with computers at that young an age, but I
digress.

Hey, that would be great. I've added/ported quite a few nice features
to ldglite since it was last compiled for the Mac. The cheesy file open
dialog (in the GLUT menu) may require a bit of work for the Mac filesystem.
I should probably clean up dirscan.c. It's a bit of a mess right now...
The gamemode stuff may also be a problem. Depends on how up to date the
Mac version of GLUT is.

Don't get too excited about Creator. My kids were bored with it after
about 10 minutes. The little motorcycle set that came with it got much
more playtime.
Have fun,

I think Erik was referring to Creator II: Knight's Kingdom. That's a lot cooler
:-) Even though Creator 1 was cheesy IMO, I enjoyed blowing up stuff with the
dynamite bricks...that got hours of playtime. Anyways, for AFOLs, Creator will
never cut it. That's why we write our own stuff.
