| | | | | After I built the original Luna Tower, I got a few great suggestions for
improvement, including making the top revolve. In order to include working
elevators and a rotating top, I had to start over from scratch and work much
bigger. This second version also includes a well-populated interior. I'm
quite pleased with the result.

Wow! I wouldn't have believed much improvement was possible from the first
version. However, you've obviously topped yourself with this one. And 5 ft.
tall!
I really like the interior, as well as the baseplate details. Great
elevator design. You've really done an excellent covering the obvious
details that allow the restaurant to move. As with the first, great
architectural details on the restaurant as well. Is the structure sturdy?
Superb job,

Over 5 ft tall! :)

Thanks! The elevator took quite a bit of SNOT-work to allow a fig inside and
still get the symmetry on top and bottom. The elevator and the middle of the
spire are about all that larger and the smaller version share.

I made it pretty darn difficult to get inside the restaurant in the meantime...

Yes. The top is very heavy, and the tower does vibrate a bit when it turns,
but it stays up well.

| Dude, that is massive. Cool how you have so much functionality in it - and
the overall shape is real eyecandy. I hope this will come to Brickfest -
this is something that needs to be seen in person to be truly appreciated.
The same held true for your Space Plane for me - I always thought it was a
cool MOC, but I didn't realize how cool and unique it was til I got to gawk
at it for an hour or so at the '01 fest.

Yes, this will be coming to Brickfest. One thing I realized with the first
design was that I hadn't made it very easy to transport, so I built this one
with that very clearly in mind. The top slides right off of the elevator
shaft. The supports are held on only by some Technic pins. The elevator shaft
also slides out of the base, and the base breaks up into nine 32x32 sections.
I only have to hope that Adrian doesn't bring as much stuff as he did last year.

I think that's often a problem with large MOCs...I appreciate Eric Sophie's
work much more after seeing it at BricksWest last year too. On the other hand,
a great thing about larger work is that it impresses anyone who sees it,
whether they're into Lego or not.

Cool. Now I only have to hope that I can get the vacation time from work
and hitch a ride with someone to get there. :-)

You're still traveling with that freak? :-)

Agreed. It's always difficult to convey the level of detail of anything
remotely large in pictures; you just need to see it. And it's cool how
non-lego people seem to really be interested in the really large stuff.
When I read the above I thought instantly of a college buddy of mine. Gave
me all kind of crap about "still playing with Lego". That is, until I
showed him Jennifer Clark's stuff.

Eh, just steal a car. Oh, wait, no. I've been playing too much Grand Theft

Cheaper than flying. Plus, the poor boy doesn't have a car! I think that's
worthwhile enough to put up with this freak.

Hehe, we'll see about that. If anybody at BF2003 is going to want to see
the Neb or Blood Moon, I may have to bring them back again. Plus, I've got
another couple of big creations in the works :) How will the Spire look
strapped to the roof of the jeep? *muahahaha*
Smart work on making the thing disassembleable. I've learned (since the
problems of squeezing the Blood Moon in the back of my Jeep) that I should
make everything so that it comes apart easily :)

Indeed. (Again, with the Blood Moon) people didn't realize that it was as
huge as it was, similar to your Space plane, til it is beheld in public.
Lego has a way of fooling people when it's photographed.
Oh, by the way, the new Spire is seriously cool. Looks like we've got the
winner for BF2003's Moonbase MOC contest. The voters LOVE big!

I second this motion. "The Official CS Moonbase Tower, Luna Tower." Or
something along that tag line. The show piece of the project. "Come for Luna
Tower, Stay for all the other module coolness." ::turns off commercial

Bram,
Freakin' cool! When I first saw the Moonbase concept, I thought to
myself that I'd like to build a Mega-Mod (still SLOWLY working on the first
baseplate - HA!). Really neat to see one turn out so cool! Nice curves and
details!
