LDView 3.2 is now available for download from the LDView downloads page here:
http://ldview.sourceforge.net/Downloads.html
Please note that the translations have not yet been updated to work with this
release, and translations created for version 3.1 will refuse to load. The 3.2
translations are being actively worked on, though, and will hopefully be
available soon.
Some notable changes:
- Generate an HTML parts list for your model. (This should generate an accurate part count even for MPD files with multiple instances of sub-models, and arbitrary nesting. However, mirrored sub-models will generate mirror image parts for those parts that arent symmetric.) This uses Peeron for part images (with permission).
- Light source direction can now be changed. There are nine pre-defined directions in the Preferences, plus you can rotate to any arbitrary direction by holding down shift and dragging with the mouse in the model view.
- Support for light.dat files in LDraw models (up to a maximum of 8 total lights).
- LDView can now be used to generate thumbnails in Windows Explorer thumbnail view in Windows and Gnome Nautilus file browser in Linux*.
- Zoom to Fit no longer messes up the rotation center.
- Various command line processing fixes that greatly improve the overall experience when using LDView to create images from the command line.
- Universal Mac Binary version. (Uses QT Mac, so does not require X11.)
* This is in the ldview-gnome-3.2-1.i386.rpm file.
If you already have LDView 3.2 Beta 1, this official release only contains bug
fixes for you, not new features. It does include quite a few bug fixes, though.
Please see the full change history
here.
Please send any bugs, suggestions, or other feedback to ldview@gmail.com.

Thank you Travis.
Is it just me or is this version unusable slow?
Drawing anything takes a good few seconds of 100% CPU whereas the same
model and settings were almost instant in previous versions.
I can go back to some previous build if it helps.

That's the first I've heard of new performance problems in 3.2. I don't think I
got any reports of that for the 3.2 Beta, and the 3.2 final is only bug fixes.
It certainly runs fine on the computers I've tested it on.
Can you copy the first three lines of info from LDView's Help->OpenGL Driver
Info dialog and post them here? (Select the text, hit Ctrl+C to copy, then
paste into your message.)

What was the last build you used that worked? 3.1?

It was 3.1 beta 1, but feel free to ignore all this. I went back to
3.1b1 to test and then reinstalled 3.2 and its fine now. I'm not sure
what happened yesterday, but I will let you know if anything else happens.

Thanks. Glad to hear that the problem has corrected itself. And even though
that happened, I'm still glad that you reported your problem. I actually don't
get enough bug reports from LDView. I'd say about half the bugs that I see and
fix are discovered by me, and only half get reported by users. Given the nature
of some of the bugs I have found, I have to assume that users have encountered
them, but I do understand that reporting bugs is a hassle (and possibly even
intimidating).
I don't know why reinstalling would have any effect, but obviously it did. Note
that while LDView stores settings in the registry, it doesn't put anything there
at install time other than purely install/uninstall stuff from the installer and
Explorer tie-ins (.ldr/.mpd default program stuff if you check that, and COM
registration stuff if you check to use LDView to generate thumbnails). That's
why I can still have a ZIP distribution (although you don't get the extra
Explorer tie-ins if you use the ZIP version).

As a fellow software developer, I understand the need for people to
report issues they come across. Sadly, we just do not have the time,
money, hardware, patience, etc to test every scenario while still
writing all the new stuff as well.
On the same vein, I find it silly that people try beta apps then
complain when there are issues...
Thanks to you (and the other developers) who do stuff for LDraw :)
