It has been a full year since the creation of the LDraw.org Standards Committee
(LSC). Nominations are now open, elections will be held July 15.
The LDraw.org Standards Committee (LSC) is responsible for maintaining
semi-regular internal discussions on pending file format issues, the overall
progress of the LDraw file format and new or proposed developments made by
different LDraw-based software authors. They adopt new official standards by
voting on them, and publish documentation on LDraw.org following such a
decision. The LSC has documented and will document past, current and future
LDraw File Formats.
To be eligible for LSC membership, per the proposal [1], you must fulfill at
least one of the following:
- Authored at least two LDraw parts subsequently released in an Official LDraw.org Parts Update
- Served as a reviewer on the Parts Tracker through at least 2 official parts updates, and posted at least 5 reviews in at least two updates since their initial participation
- Authored a software program that is compliant with either the LDraw 0.2.7 spec or another spec published by the LSC
- Petition for nomination as an LSC candidate approved by 2 current LSC members
- Petition for nomination as an LSC candidate made to the LSC by at least 5 others eligible to be LSC candidates
Following last years [2] precedent, people can either self-nominate or
nominate someone else. When nominating, please reference the persons
eligibility from the list above.
Nominations MUST be posted in direct reply to this post to be counted, and must
be online by 12:00am July 14.
The dates this year are slightly different than set forth in the proposal, but
follow the same general pattern. Voting for the elections will begin July 15,
and end July 22. Per the proposal, the LSC will officially change over on August
15th, giving time to transition newly elected members into the committee.
The poll will be conducted via the LDraw.org web site. Organization Members are
eligible to vote in this poll. If you are not registered as a member of the
organization and would like to join, follow the instructions at the bottom of
this page: Joining the Organization.

I suspect this post was missed due to the US-holiday weekend.

Since no one has made any nominations, or volunteered, I'd like to nominate the
current members of the LSC, in its entirety:
- Orion Pobursky, parts author, LDraw.org webmaster, manager of MOTM and SOTM,
and a founding member of the LDraw.org SteerCo.
- Kevin Clague, creator of LSynth and LPub, author of LEGO Software Power Tools,
and a founding member of the LDraw.org SteerCo.
- Michael Lachmann, creator of MLCAD.
- Jacob Sparre Andersen, parts author, writer of MPD utilities, original
LDraw.org server admin (and provider).
- Steve Bliss, parts author, parts library admin, co-author of Virtual LEGO,
creator of LDraw Add-On.
Please don't think that the short list of 'credits' I've given here is meant to
represent the complete picture of the contribution made to LDraw.org by any of
these persons. They have all materially contributed to LDraw and to LDraw.org,
and have been outstanding members on the LSC for this past year.
Also, there are certainly other people I'd be happy to see on the LSC, but I
think nominating five people in one post is probably some kind of limit.

Well, I nominated 7 people for the SteerCo, but those had to all be in separate
posts to satisfy the nomination rules ;-). The fact that I nominated so many
people there was the reason I didn't respond to the nomination request here when
I first saw it. However, given the lack of response so far, I'll add the
following nominations (along with a qualification they satisfy):
Don Heyse (authored ldglite program)
Tore Eriksson (authored a boatload of official parts)
Will Tschager (authored quite a few more than two official parts)
I'll leave it at three. At least it gives us something to vote on if nobody
else makes any nominations.

Heh, I forgot that part. I probably stuck it in there though, knowing me. For
this one, I just re-used the nomination rules from last year.

I can't accept the nomination. I don't think I have the temperament
required for such a position. For instance, if I don't get my way with
the spacelaunch brick currently under review, I think I'm gonna cry.
So instead, could I nominate Travis Cobbs and Lars Hassing?

Strictly speaking, you need to reply to Tim's original post to actually
nominate.

Thanks for the nomination. I accept.
Play well,

Thank you for nominating me.
But because of dramatic missing time, I would like to decline. I believe I was
no big help the past year, and therefor would like to give other people a chance
to hop in.
Best regards,
Michael

I graciously accept the nomination.

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | I messed up in my first nomination, and replied to a reply. So here is a direct
reply nominating the following (with a qualification listed):
Tore Eriksson (authored a boatload of official parts)
Will Tschager (authored quite a few more than two official parts)

Many thx for the confidence.
However, considering myself still a LDraw-toddler I don't think to be fit enough
to play with the big boys.
I'm going to have to respectfully decline.

I accept my nomination and offer three more:
Lar Hassing (L3P)
Andrew Allen (Mac Brick Cad) expressed a desire to run for the LSC so I nominate
him.
In case Dons nom doesnt count, Travis Cobbs (LDView)

Thank you, I accept.
Note, however, that my first name is *Lars*, not to be confused with Larry Pieniazek :-)

My mistake. I realized this after I submitted the post.

Why would there be any confusion? ;-)

I hear they have a nice gene pool there ...

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | I have prepared a summary of who is nominated, and who has accepted, declined or
not spoken up yet.
http://www.ldraw.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=309
Corrections (via email directly to me please) welcomed. If you see your name as
not yet spoken up, go ahead and do so via reply to your nominator's post.
I expect I bobbled a few. Sorry for the delay, the election is almost upon us
but hopefully folks will find this helpful.
