Hey all,
This past weekend Our Lady of the Snows Shrine in
Belleville, IL launched the Way of Lights event, so Im free to post this now.
Last weekend (October 7-9) I drove down to St. Louis from Ottumwa, IA to help
Dan Parker and Gary McIntire set up the lifesize nativity scene and minifig
scale town of Bethlehem, among other things. It was pretty solid work right up
until midday Sunday when I left, but we got er done. I had seen the nativity
scene before, but not all assembled. To all the guys at the studio back in
Seattle, great job. Really amazing. Also, getting to help Bethlehem come
together was an experience. After it was set up, Gary and I went back and added
some extra landscape touches; fun stuff.

(some large pics of certain things)
Some highlights of the weekend (pre-mod teasers):
-That palm tree is teh s3xy
-Studs down construction on the head!
-The hood in Bethlehem - very interesting construction on some of the houses
-Gary trying to kill Dan w/ the Star of Bethlehem
-Dan exacting his revenge
-the minifig xmas tree
Also while there, I got the chance to see Adrians snowman and poohbear IRL, as
well as some amazing creations by Nathan Sawaya. I wasnt able to stick around
for the final touches, so Im really hankering to go back down before the end of
December to see the entire display in all its glory.
All in all, I had a magnificent time. The people at the Shrine were incredibly
friendly and helpful, not to mention very curious. Shortly after we got there
we were known as the lego guys by everyone and their brother. Really great
place, not just for the lego. There are amazing exhibits and displays and such
to see, so if youre at all able to, you should check it out.
That is all,

Love the hood. Blocky, yet lots of character. And sheep!

The whole set up looks great. Im amazed with everything. Nice job! I was
bummed that I couldnt make it down there to help, and meet some of you all, but
from the pics, it looked like everything arrived in one piece.
Again, great job on all of the creations! The whole thing looks spectacular!

Beutiful setup. Ive always likes the slopes on sculpted faces, and Marys head
is a perfect example. The town is AMAZING (the moonbase compatibity had me LOL!
will you have more close-ups of the buildings, landscape, & shepherd/sheep? Are
any of the buildings besides the moonbase one completed on the inside? GREAT
JOB!

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Hi, Chris. Thanks for the great photos.
That Bethlehem set is awesome. Great design on the houses, and very impressive
landscaping. These scene is dear to my heart, being a Bible scene rendered at
minifig scale. @8^)
The nativity is wonderful, too. The sheer number of bricks involved is just
boggling my mind. Look at that enormous stone wall!
I understand that Dan Parker's company TrainBuilder "and other Lego enthusiasts"
were hired to construct this project, but could someone tell me:
1) Just who was involved, and who built what? I'd like to give credit where
credit is due!
2) How were all those bricks aquired? Were they donated by LEGO, or all
purchased by the Shrine of the Lady of the Snows? (I can barely imagine what
the total cost would be!)
Anyhow, excellent job, everyone!

Hi Chris,
Impressing indeed!! But I must admit, I'm a little disappointed over the
minifig scale Bethlehem. I mean, in Belleville, the scale should of course have
been - Lego Belville!!
