Announcing BricksWest™ 2002 - The West Coast LEGO® Fan Event
October 14, 2001Today the volunteer committee of organizers is proud to
officially announce BricksWest 2002, the West Coast LEGO fan event. Designed
for the Adult Fan Of LEGO (AFOL), families, and children of all ages,
BricksWest will be the premiere West Coast gathering for fans of the brick.
The event will take place in beautiful Carlsbad, California, home of the
LEGOLAND™ California theme park.
The innaugural BricksWest gathering will take place President's Day Weekend,
February 16 - 18, 2002. Situated one and a half months after the winter
holidays, two days after Valentines Day, and six months away from WAMALUG's
(http://www.wamalug.org) BrickFest™ (http://www.brickfest.com) on the East
Coast, this weekend should be perfect for our ultimate gathering of LEGO fans.
BricksWest is a fan-produced event officially sanctioned and sponsored by
the LEGO Group of companies.
Exclusive Venue & Events
The BricksWest organizers have secured The Grand Pacific Palisades Resort &
Hotel (http://www.grandpacificpalisades.com) as the official venue and
lodging of BricksWest 2002. This hotel is the closest hotel to LEGOLAND
California, and the nicest hotel in the Carlsbad area. By special
arrangement, BricksWest attendees will receive at least 25% off the normal
room rates during the event. Guests will want to join us in the hotel for
ease of attendance to games and conference sessions, early, late and
after-hours activities, and the breakout social gatherings which are bound
to occur.
Currently in the planning stages is an exclusive half-day excursion into
LEGOLAND, with full access to all rides, games and spectacular shopping,
followed by a semi-formal, fully catered dinner in MiniLand. Other possible
events being discussed include behind-the-scenes tours of the LEGO Model
Shop with a LEGO Model Designer, and the formal premiere screening of the
entries in the BricksWest Animation Festival and Competition in the LEGOLAND
Pavillion. (All events are subject to change)
Several very special guests are slated to attend BricksWest. See the
official event web site for details and further updates on our guest
attendees. (All special guests are subject to change)

That WAS the idea, you know!
<shameless plug>
Just so everyone knows, Tim is slated to attend BricksWest and run our LDraw
activities. As our schedule becomes more solid in the next couple of weeks,
look for further innformation to be posted here, or at the official event
web site (http://www.brickswest.com).

event!

Awesome news.
Suggest that an events.brickswest be set up, just as an events.brickfest
was... something tells me there is going to be a fair bit of discussion
(some along the lines of Tim provoking a Matt-toot of his horn, of course
all in good fun, and some more serious) on this topic over the next 4 months.
However Matt (is he the organizing committee, or is it the rest haven't
emerged from the shadows yet?) may think differently so should veto this
idea if it's duff.

<snipped details>
OMG! Now this is what I've waiting to see! The LUGNET site suggested, hey,
I'm all for it. Myself and other members of SCLTC would be interested in
participating in such an event.

Now that BricksWest is out of the bag.....
I would like to invite anyone with an animated bone in their body to submit an
entry or two (several if you would like) to a juried competition of animated
films to be held at BricksWest 2002.
The BricksWest Animation Festival will be divided into two main categories:
animations using LEGO System Products and computer generated animations using
any program including LDraw. All of the details can be found at
http://www.brickswest.com/ with rules coming in a couple of weeks.
There will be prizes given to the participants that win in each category. We
are still working on this, but we are hoping something cool like LEGO passed
out at their first animation festival.
The winning animations and honorable mentions will be shown at a special
session at BricksWest and all entries will be showing all weekend long at the
BricksWest Convention. With luck, we might even be able to show them in the
park at LegoLand.
You do not need to be present to enter or win (in fact entries are due Jan 31,
2002), but we hope you will come for the Premeire, the Gala afterwards and the
autograph signing at the party.
