(...) Some of both, it looks like. The orange formula 1 racer seems to have a full minifig, as would the canopied 4X4 I'd imagine...the rest seem to have minifig heads and helmets on a blob body, similar to the current racers. Matt (23 years ago, 30-Oct-01, to lugnet.year.2002)

(...) Yeah, they're all over the place, and on the Racer sets too. The canopy appears to have open sides -- which is not the most sensible approach to underwater vehicles. (...) Look at this: (URL) See the grey pieces on top of 4795 (and on the back of the yellow sub, that stretches across the page seam)?
