Hey John,
I started to write a response to each of your questions, but realized that I
kept answering them with the same question, Do you still enjoy building with
LEGO?. If you answer this no then I would suggest that you find something to
build that is fun. It doesnt have to be for the club, it can simply be for
yourself.
This also goes for your active members. Ask them directly if they enjoy
working on your current project. If not, start a new project that is more
enjoyable to build for them.
NELUG gets many offers to do train shows and special events, but we only do them
when we have enough club members interested.

Help?!
What can our club do to make things fun again?
Im sick of asking and asking for people to actually show up and get stuff
done.

I think they are to. I would suggest that you stop asking them to help and
simply tell them how much fun you had at the last meeting or session. Let them
then ask to be part of the fun.
|
And the few of us that actually try to get things built are sick of
being the only people doing the work, ...

Ill be blunt, get over it. You cant force people to do something they arent
interested in. You should just taylor your projects around the people who are
interested in them. If other members want to help out they can, but dont
expect them to.
|
... especially since our club is known for its talented builders.
|
Here is part of your problem. If your projects are designed for talented
builders then only those with talent will want to work on them. Everyone else
will feel like they arent good enough to help.
|
Im just about ready to walk away for a long hiatus... There was a time when
we were one of the premier LTCs in the country, but now a LOT of groups have
long passed what were doing. Were basically becoming a second-tier club.
|
If that is what you need to do, then do it. I suggest however that instead of
simply walking away that you take a smaller role in the club and focus on your
own enjoyment with lego. Build something for yourself.
|
Suggestions, anyone? We need help!
|
If you can be open and unjudgemental then ask your club why they arent more
involved. Have them write to you directly if they dont feel comfortable
posting to the list. They will be more help to you then I can.
I hope my thoughts can be of some help.
