Re: Possible Source of NEW Trains

(...) You know, previously I would have said you are nuts; LEGO cannot be out done. However, it does seem that LEGO is working very hard at making life easier for the competition. Maybe the competition would get LEGO going in the right direction? (...) (25 years ago, 29-Apr-99, to lugnet.trains)

Oh, I agree Chris. I would have said the same thing five years ago. I have been with Lego sets for 20 years now, and I have a hard time with saying it. But times have changed. I will say the SW sets are wonderful, I have many now. But overall, look (...) (25 years ago, 29-Apr-99, to lugnet.trains)

(...) Eurotrash!! That's the name of a TV Program. You're just jealous that European Passenger trains can run at 186mph. (...) Are the metal rails magnetic? If so you could use Superhedsion(TM) basically using magnets to improve traction. (...) How (...) (25 years ago, 21-Apr-99, to lugnet.trains)

I've seen (held, checked-out, put back) the military sets in a Target in the San Francisco Bay Area in California. Among other problems, the plates look really flimsy. That, along with other general flimsy appearance meant I wasn't willing to chance (...) (25 years ago, 1-May-99, to lugnet.trains)

I would guess it would be similar to Megablocks, just as a guess. But maybe if TLG would see some of their themes (i.e. Military, Suburbia, etc.) and some of their pieces, maybe they would think twice on their Town Juniorizing everything. I would (...) (25 years ago, 1-May-99, to lugnet.trains)

RE: 4.5v upgraded to 9v - ideas welcome.

(...) Just remember to limit the current through the Zener diode when dropping the voltage... If you have a 12V supply and try to put a 9V zener without a dropping resistor, it will simply burn out. A zener diode is really a clamping device. Better (...) (21 years ago, 9-Feb-04, to lugnet.trains)

I would like to say "hi" and introduce myself as a LEGO Train newbie. I only have the old 7720 set and a load of track. Each time I think of upgrading and buying a new train set LEGO releases something new, usually Star Wars, which catches my eye (...) (21 years ago, 8-Feb-04, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Hogwarts as 9 V set

(...) We had a non-9v on our Layout at GATS this last weekend. We could motorize it for a lot less than $120.00. I bought the set #4708 at the outlet store from Brickfest last year for $14.99 in a damaged box, but the set was perfect. (URL) GtwLUG (21 years ago, 4-Feb-04, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: YOU be the designer

Well, what would be more prototypical than 8 stud wide trains with tight curves.... to me that sounds like narrow gauge. Although I'm not a big fan of narrow gauge, it would seem to me to be the perfect application. [1] [1] OTOH the minifig would (...) (25 years ago, 27-Apr-99, to lugnet.trains)

i think the reason we are not seeing any decent trains lately is because by their nature train sets cost more than other legos because of the motor, track and controller. (25 years ago, 27-Apr-99, to lugnet.trains)

(...) Well yes, that goes without saying. You need to protect your DCC function output from exceeding it's milliamp limit. With the Zenner it just makes your resistance required to be far less. As an example 50 ohms as apposed to 200 ohms. Dean (21 years ago, 9-Feb-04, to lugnet.trains)
