I post this in response to some discussion concerning double decker commuter
trains.

This is a fairly old model.  I built it back in March or April.
It is still a version 1 model as I haven't had time nor inclination to modify
it further.

It is loosely based on the double decker commuter train cars in The
Netherlands.  It lacks the slant blue stripes typical of the real paint scheme.

What I'd change if'n I could:
1) "real" yellow train window frames with trans light blue train glass inserts
(where's the yellow soccer bus?)  :-(
2) Metroliner club car style vertical with 45 degree slope hinged trans light
blue window.
3) yellow 1x4 "toothed" hinge fingers for windows in item 2) above.
4) I'd still keep the 1-stud wide yellow separation between upper deck windows.
5) lower the gray roof line by replacing the top row of gray 45 degree slopes
with a two-stepped layering of gray tiles.

The upper deck window treatment shown in the pictures via the link above has
exhausted my supply of 1x2x1 trans light blue thin walls.  Needless to say, if
I had more, I'd try to build a complementary double deck cab control unit.

I am happy that there are now blue soccer buses.  Someday I should like to
complement this potential train set with yellow and blue-window framed
passenger cars similar to Eric Brok's Hondekomp (sp?) "dog face" train set.

If LEGO continues with new colors and more piece selection in new colors, I
would very much like to model the Amtrak "Coaster" double deck commuter train
that runs from the San Diego Sante Fe depot to Oceanside via Carlsbad, CA.
Close enough to LEGOLAND, CA for it to be a great representative train for the
themepark. Anyway...it would require teals(?bluish green) and purples, I think.

later,
James Mathis

That's easy - if you have grey Metroliner windows (1x4x3 OR 1x2x3), trade them to me for yellow 1x4x3 windows ;-) (...) -- | Tom Stangl, Technical Support Netscape Communications Corp | Please do not associate my personal views with my employer (24 years ago, 10-Aug-00, to lugnet.trains)
