I was pleasantly surprised to see how the points or switches work.
The way the switches are automatically thrown if approached in the
wrong position is pretty cool.

quite...  I havn't had a chance to play with them yet (since we just
now got our 6990, and it has no switches anyway) but the concept is
very nice...


It had me wondering if there was anything special about 9v track
switches?  Are they thrown automatically as well, or just allow the
train to pass through?

pass through - with a nice "click" sound too :)  though, under some
situations, if the switch is turned the wrong way, the train will not
get power.
