Investment for a home layout? —Wayne Jackson
I am using Bluebrick to design an abstract layout at 4.5m x 2.5m to simulate my home suburb. What I am trying to decide on is do I invest in the 9v track, use the current RC track (I have a fair bit thanks to the sets I have bought eg: 7939), or is (...)      (...) Honestly I wouldn't even think about switching 9V if you don't already have a bunch. The IR track is far more versatile (and you can even build your own) balanced by the downside that you have to hide a battery box for power. Save your money (...)      (...) Not off hand but I've seen people use the edge of a plate with bar for it. I have a vague memory seeing a link on RAILBRICKS a while back but I could be mistaken. Tim (14 years ago, 17-Sep-10, to lugnet.trains)

(...) Whoops... missed that bit. All indications are that LEGO will be using the RC track for a long time and they seem very committed to PFS in trains too and have invited various AFOLs to help out with it. I'd be very surprised if this system (...) (14 years ago, 17-Sep-10, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Investment for a home layout? —John Neal
(...) The fact that the new PF train motor seems to be more powerful than the 9 volt motor would incline me to go with the new system. I don't like the dark Blay track, but such is life. I will be keeping my 9 volt track and probably run the PF (...) (14 years ago, 18-Sep-10, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

(...) As a long term die-hard fan of 9V equipment I have to agree here 100%: The new motors rock. They are extremely fast, very strong, surprisingly "energy" efficient. After purchasing and testing the new trains, I found that they have great play (...) (14 years ago, 19-Sep-10, to lugnet.trains, FTX) !
