I think you completely missed the mark right there.  Given the nature of the
franchise, it is probably a very accurate and highly detailed recreation of an
actual toy train, with no "juniorization" involved.  I bought it, and compared
to a similar style of train engine that someone else in our club made, the bogey
design on the engine is actually pretty clever (instead of using a swing-arm
design for the front bogey and a fixed rear bogey, the boiler is cantilevered
out on an axle, and the front bogey is pin mounted to a 4x4 round brick at the
front end), and that's coming from someone who has very little interest in train
sets.

but I think it would look very out of place alongside other Lego trains,
even though normally have scale compression in length.

Now _that_ might certainly be true, depending on the style of other trains
you're setting it alongside.  But the reasons could vary significantly.  I mean,
if you stick it next to a bunch of Thomas the Tank Engine trains, it would look
way too realistic.
