Really? I don’t see the connection here, Eric. Why would TLG equate the success of this set with an endorsement of the 9 volt system? I’d like to think that there is some definitive way to express this sentiment, but I don’t see how in this case, or any case, except the flat out purchasing of 9volt track, motors, and transformers, and, of course, sets that contain those particular elements. And even then, they might have already made the decision to discontinue 9volt anyway, and would be grateful for the help reducing excess inventory of discontinued product.

Eric might have more info on this than I do, but from what I can tell, TLG is marketing this set as part of the 9v system, so purchasing this set would show an interest in that system. I know last night when I hit the Shop at Home site to check out this set, the cross-sells shown below the main product were for 9v track, and not for the RC products. I took this as a good sign.

Elroy pretty much has it. This set is marketed as part of the 9v Electric system. It is meant for LEGO Train “Hobbiests” not just kids that want to build a LEGO kit and watch it go around the track a few times.

Everyone is welcome to their own views on things but my feeling is the best way to show support is with your wallet. I think purchasing track and motors are just as beneficial but this set says something a little different. It is also a tool for anyone that would like to try out the hobby. For a model railroading hobbiest $100 is not that expensive and if they try this and see that we all basically “kitbash” everything they might think that is neat. Take that one step further and they see they can take something they don’t like and take it appart and all the parts are 100% reusable...

If you don’t want to buy the set then I am not going to twist your arm, I just don’t see any better way to show support to the line then buying this set and showing some bean counter how successful something like this can be.

(...) It's not a question of whether or not I'll buy the set. Even if I didn't want the set, I would consider purchasing it if I knew that it had a direct bearing on the fate of 9 volt (which I'd like to continue). I think you and DaveE have made (...)
