Short aswer: I think it has to do with the LGEO-parts which look
beautiful but are programmed very complex and are a bit buggy. In some
transparant parts these bugs cause a grainy or noisy finish.

Long answer:  I think it has to do with the LGEO-parts which look
beautiful but are programmed very complex and a bit buggy. In some
transparant parts these bugs cause a grainy or noisy finish.
This has to do with 2 objects (in the same part) that share one or more
sides on the same coordinates. This causes POV-Ray to get confused about
wheter or not making a pixel transparant. Small changes in view angle
(as happening in Ben's animation) can make the transparant part look
lighter or darker.
Solutions are:
A - bugfix the LGEO parts and delete useless objects or,
B - embed Anton Raves' code in your LDraw-parts that cause problems.
Anton's parts are less complex and look as beautiful (or better) as
LGEO, or,
C - convert the complete LDraw file into Anton Raves parts
(http://www.antonraves.com/converter.php),
D - Life with it.

Good luck, Jeroen

(...) Thanks Jeroen, for pointing this out! I havn't used Anton's parts so far, but I may give them a try with one of my next renders. Leg Godt! Ben (18 years ago, 5-Sep-06, to lugnet.trains)

Nice and smooth, and I believe I may be stealing those connecting rods. Have you worked out what's making the cab window flicker so? (18 years ago, 5-Sep-06, to lugnet.trains)
