Thats the article I used about a year ago for a train layout -- there are some
good designs there. The key is having enough torque to flip the switch -- by
using a long lever. I used the simpler designs that dont try to conceal their
mechanisms inside a building.
To power them, I used a bunch of polarity switches I controlled manually
attached to a second train regulator. You have to be careful to not stall your
motors, which is easy to do because those tracks will change position very
quickly -- so turn the polarity switches off right away. I was going to automate
them eventually with an RCX but never got around to it.
