Re: 12V to 9V - why the switch —Jason J. Railton
(...) Was there a Lego community in 1991? I can see a lot of advantages in the change: 1. Better pick-up of power through the wheels on the inner edge of the track. Sprung contacts like on 12V trains are prone to wear and spark damage. 2. One-piece (...) (20 years ago, 17-May-05, to lugnet.trains)

Re: 12V to 9V - why the switch —Niels Karsdorp
(...) The text at the first bullet says that the possibilities have increased due to the change to the Electric System of Lego. Without automatic switches and signals the possibilities have more decreased imho. (...) Juniorization...... (...) I've (...) (20 years ago, 17-May-05, to lugnet.trains)

Re: 12V to 9V - why the switch —Jonathan Wilson
Speaking of switches, does anyone have any ideas or thoughts on why the lego switches/points are the shape they are? I know they changed shape from 4.5v to 9v but why did they pick the shape they did? Given the constraints of what TLC does and given (...) (20 years ago, 17-May-05, to lugnet.trains)

Re: 12V to 9V - why the switch —David Koudys
(...) (URL) down a bit and you'll see my modified switches--after the mod it does at least 3 things well--you can make up the 'original', you can do the 90 degree turn and you can put switches end to end and have 'em fit 8 studs apart--all with this (...)          Re: 12V to 9V - why the switch —Mathew Clayson
(...) Absolutly! Dave, I've made several of these for myself and the SCLTC, and they work great. Thank you so much for publishing your mod. We used 7 of these, in various flavours on our last layout. And we'll have at least 4 more in our next layout (...) (20 years ago, 18-May-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: 12V to 9V - why the switch —Mathew Clayson
(...) Sort of, it was rec.toys newslist, I think there were about 50+ LEGO fans on the list at the time. In fact the fans in the SF Bay Area (now BAYLUG) had a privet Email list at the time that spun off the rec.toys list. (...) They big advantage (...)         push trains (was Re: 12V to 9V - why the switch) —Jonathan Wilson
(...) I think that producing a line of unpowered trains would be a GREAT move for TLC. Basicly, sell train sets that are pretty much the same as they are now but without the motor/speed regulator/etc. Include a circle or oval of track plus a (...) (20 years ago, 18-May-05, to lugnet.trains)

Re: push trains (was Re: 12V to 9V - why the switch) —Tim David
(...) Yes exactly like 7715, which was the only set I could afford as a kid, but with the advantage that you wouldn't need to buy electrical rails to electrify it tim (20 years ago, 18-May-05, to lugnet.trains)
