Submitted for inspiration, four designs of short wheelbase wagons. A mix of old
and modern, but the sort of thing Id like to see Lego produce as its next
accurate railway model. Maybe a small diesel dock
shunter or
branch
line
engine, and a set of two
different wagons something like these. I think it would be great to make a long
train of any of these, particularly the V-tanker or the coal/ore hopper wagon.
Id also like to see a set that comes with the same number of buffers as
wheelsets, for making short wagons. Using bogey sets leaves wheels and
baseplates left over, and its annoying that thats the only way to get train
parts.
First, a broken-back or v tanker, for all sorts of fluid and powder cargo.
This is for Blue Circle cement, and is a 6-wide version of Mark Bellis 8-wide
tankers. Note the half-plate step along the body.
This step is achieved using a core of four lines of headlight bricks, running
the entire length of the tank. They alternate between upright and face-up, to
get an alternating half-plate step. The tank is built in 1-stud wide slices
around these four spines.
Next, something Ive shown before. A coal wagon from the Bolsover Colliery in
dark red with inlaid lettering.
This is an overhauled version of my Saxa Salt wagon. The body is lowered with a
steeper roof and more detail to both the box and the brake levers between the
wheels.
Finally something else new - a reinforced hopper wagon for hauling coal or iron
ore. Although I notice the model makers at Legoland Windsor have just rolled
out something similar.

Let me know what you think.

| Like them all, perhaps you could do the broken back tanker in (URL) purple>! The Bolsover wagons hold especial significance for me as I live about 8 miles from the colliery. (and, as I found out recently, about 15 mins walk from George Stephenson's (...) (20 years ago, 8-May-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)
