But you DO have British protos now! There’s Thomas, Percy, James and all his other DUPLO freinds to play with! ;-D

I think if you’re talking British locomotive prototypes, the only ones with international recognition are either models from the Awdry series or historic engines such as the Rocket or Mallard, most of which would need a new moulding for wheels.

A mainline steam locomotive would need wheels the size of Ben’s or bigger, and a smaller locomotive would need plain wheels without sprung surrounds for when you don’t have a motor plugged in (no sidebars, and probably no connecting rods). That only leaves diesels, and the Awdry diesels are a little plain for modelling.

I thought the MoT engines were spoiled by the look of the wheels. I’d like to see a realistic saddle tank shunting engine (like wot I made), but would it be acceptable to ship it with push-along-the-carpet wheels as a motor substitute? What about a small older style of diesel shunting engine?

I can’t think of a particular large diesel engine I’d like to see - maybe a blue class 50, but then could we get black-edged train windscreens? Even so, it wouldn’t be noteable even across the channel.

So, what detailed diesel locomotives from Europe, Asia, etc. (i.e. not while multi-car streamlined passenger trains) would have wider appeal?

Some rolling stock on a shorter wheelbase would be nice though. I’ve been trying to buy train tender units just to get wheels and buffers in similar quantities. Maybe a broken-back tanker or reinforced heavy ore hopper - something to make a long line of.

You’d still need a good freight locomotive to pull it all though...
