I focussed on the TGV because I think it is more famous than either the ICE3 or
Pendolino. Certainly I had heard of the Shinkansen and TGV long before I'd heard
of the ICE. I can't really qualify beyond that though: succesful design just
seems to work in an intrinsic way. That however may just be me!

The Class 66 would definitely make a good model. Its a nice train and I'd love
to see one 'in the flesh'.

I'm in Manchester so it's not too bad but that is a fair point ;-)

I think we get a lot of both worlds really. Freight tends to be the sort of
slow, high-powered US type (for covering large distances I guess) while most of
our electric trains are European (a lot of British but, for example, the Qld
Tilt Train
<http://www.railpage.org.au/pix/electric/Tilt-train_Roma-St_10-9-98.jpg> is a
modified TGV if I remember correctly and the trains in Brisbane are Danish
design). Nothing is quite so simple since we run on our own unique guages
though-narrow gauge in Qld would not be the simplest to model in Lego.
Thanks for the comments (again to everyone) and especially for the history and
pictures.

| (...) I can satisfy the first part :-) (URL) The real ones run every day along the line south from Derby, probably 2 an hour, along with probably another 2 goods trains with other locos and several DMUs and HSTs. Mark (20 years ago, 4-May-05, to lugnet.trains)
