I have never modified a motor for DCC. LUCNY isnt that advanvced ... yet.
But I have had to fix a couple of motors. One was too far gone, while a
couple of others were fixable. The problem I found was the mesh between the
motors pinion gear (which is brass) and the nylon crown gear. Some motors
dont seem to have the pinion gear pressed far enough along the axle. This
causes the edges of the brass gear to chew on the nylon crown gear. The one
I couldnt fix was one which had already chewed up too much of the crown
gear.
Inspect your motors pinions.

I converted 2 of my motors to DCC. And I tapped the pinion gears closer to the
motor on bothe. But One of my gearbox still made ratcheting sounds. Im
wondering if its the gears, or is it the motor combined with DCC?
