Chris, thanks,
I'm not the only one to come up with this, but I think my version may be the
simplest to impliment. The spring is from a ball point pen. I cut it to 2/3 stud
width. A spring from an old keyboard may be better suited. I've replaced the 2
then T plates(#2825) in the center of the chassis with a pair for T spacers. Now
I can put a wider spring directly over the outside of the mid axles. Between the
mid drive wheel and the chassis. I'll post more pics later.
I've also replaced the T plates(#2825) on the drive ties, and I'm useing a
toggle (non locking) and spacer. If they made a technic plate that was 12 long
I'd use it. I'm planning to switch to flex rod and connectores as others here
have done
The whole thing is in a redesign right now, I've rebuilt the cab to 8 wide, the
boiler is now 5 wide, the base is 7 wide, and the firebox (between the cab and
boiler) is 5 and 1 plate wide! My first SNOT build. I've decided to build the
tender and cars in 8 wide as well.

| (...) Mat, I like the way you handled the middle wheelset. It looks great. The two stud axel with the technic triangle widgit thingy (LD part #2825) for the extra 0.5 stud is a great idea. Where, by the way, did you get the spring? The local (...) (20 years ago, 2-Aug-04, to lugnet.trains)
