weak point if anything. I will also be looking hard at the broken-back tankers

Tim

The Mk3 coaches were a bit thrown together as I needed a passenger train quickly. They date from before my first exhibition alongside other scales and gauges in October 2000. The bogies have been rebuilt several times as the trim kept falling off! I meant to lengthen the coaches and have 5-long windows, all tiled in black, but my list of train building jobs is long!

Still, the doors will open with the flat hinges and the corridors have yellow ends with a tail lamp. I need to get the black roof bricks to replace the red and move the Intercity stripe now that I’ve got more red plates.

Hmmm... sounds like starting again from scratch!

The PCA cement tankers are ‘sculpted’ using a lot of grey roof bricks. the underneath ones in the middle are the double sided ones with a footprint of 4x4 (from Model team fuel tanks). Since support is required inside for the middle of the roof anyway, it might as well rest on the other raised side of these pieces.

The solebar is 7-wide, using a lot of jumper plates. The wheels swivel to get round the surves at 15’ wheelbase. This uses the small white belts to spring the wheels back to the middle. The 7-wide base was convenient for the unloading pipework as it’s all connected sideways underneath.

I enjoyed the result of the Peak’s grilles as it’s something that’s difficult to do in OO scale. The green engines ae the result of buying two extra dragons. I’ve built a Co-Bo since the pictures were taken.

The Hymek has a yellow slot for a face to be inserted as “Bear” in the Thomas books is a Hymek (D7101, one more than the real series of numbers).

The Hogwarts Express in the station is built as a Hall engine and has lights in the firebox as well as 2 train and 2 Technic motors. The coach on that one is to the proper standard :-) and has the Harry Potter characters in the windows (for the kids to spot at exhibitions). I might build another coach now that I have some more red windows, though the station platform will need redesigning to accommodate it.

I finally succumbed to building a Thomas, even though I don’t have any blue 24mm pulleys - do you know where I could get some?

Mark
