Well yeah, 17 feet may be a bit too long...

It's a good reference, and I'd probably scale it back some to fit table
dimensions.  There's an incongruous electrical connection that needs to be
removed, however, as you've got polarity reversed on the right end of the yard.
The right-most switch on the 2nd-to-bottom siding shouldn't have a siding that
connects to the outer line.  Check out the .tdl under View>>Electrical and
you'll see what I mean.

Yes, a few points of electrical isolation would be needed, especially at the
wye/loop on the right end.

Sure thing - I think it would be great to get some more creative layouts that
still adhere to the standard geometry.
