(...) I've seen it up close and personal (at BricksWest 2003) and to put it end to end should work fine. Side to side may require a few small mods to the model so that protruding things mate correctly (22 years ago, 27-Mar-03, to lugnet.trains)

(...) That was the first thing I tried when I got my hands on one. Yes, you can certainly join two either end to end or side by side. There will need to be a very slight modification of the hinge brick (the kind that are two 1x2 bricks joined (...) (22 years ago, 27-Mar-03, to lugnet.trains)

You'd need to replace the 1x4 brick hinge with a 1x4 brick, or else the bump would stop them coming together. Given the level of detail present (the tools are amazing, and the lathe is crying out for a micro-motor) I wouldn't be surprised to find (...) (22 years ago, 27-Mar-03, to lugnet.trains)
