The latter. I'm not sure if I can fit such a big structure behind the
bridge, since it is possible that other structures may interfere with that
placement of the counterbalance mechanism (namely, a possible crossing
viaduct). I dunno, I must try and see.

You know what is funny? The only drawbridge I have near me doesn't seem to
have any counterbalance mechanism, at least not visible. But it is not
visitable... :-(
Thefirst time I saw a bridge with such mechanism visible was on a film about
the D-day, somewhere near Caen. It was somehow simpler than yours, I think.
What were your references when you undertook this project? I'd really like
to know more about this particular type of drawbridges.
