Um, correct me if I'm wrong, but I would have bet money that a piece of
straight track was only 5" long.  Which is it?

You are right. The section of track adds 5" to the length of the track.

(...) of track has tabs that stick out on the end to connect to the next piece of track which makes it slightly longer (2 studs, IIRC. That would make it ~5.6"). Of course, because the tabs overlap each extra piece of track only adds 5 1/16". Steve (...) (23 years ago, 29-Aug-01, to lugnet.trains)
