How about removing the 4.5 volt motor and replacing it with the 9 volt motor??? (...) (25 years ago, 20-Apr-99, to lugnet.trains)

yes but wont there be problems with the fact that the 9V motor has a bogie plate built in? also i think they are different sizes. (25 years ago, 20-Apr-99, to lugnet.trains)

(...) Well, then perhaps you're going to have to change the internals of the engine a bit to clear the "bogie plate" pin. Many 9V solid frame engines (4563 main, 4559 main) use arches to clear it. (...) Well, then perhaps the length isn't going to (...) (25 years ago, 20-Apr-99, to lugnet.trains)

The 4.5 V motor is taller that the nub on the 9V motor so any train in which the 4.5V motor fits the 9V motor will also fit. Actually, you will need to add bricks to make the 9V motor fit. When adding a 9v motor to set 7720 I added two 4x4 plates to (...) (25 years ago, 20-Apr-99, to lugnet.trains)

(...) Follow the directions they give for converting it to 12v. The two motors are the same size. Jeff P.S. I Know it can be done, 'cause I have a motorless version at home. ;) (25 years ago, 20-Apr-99, to lugnet.trains)
