  Train "tyres"

I don't know if anyone else has found a solution to the lack of spare tyres in the UK for 12 volt trains, but I have found a much more durable substitute. Heat shrink cable sleeving. and it works! Peter Simpson sterling@interalpha.co.uk (26 years ago, 5-Feb-99, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: AUSTRIAN RAIL CAR

Hi. I've seen the question of why the 4551 is referred to as "crocodile" posted a couple times so here's a little background... Lego set #4551, while not prototype, bears a striking resemblance to the Austrian Federal Railways class 1020 electric (...) (26 years ago, 5-Feb-99, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Alternative driver wheels - brit outline steamer

(...) Very true, but (depending on the prototype) much of the shape change is in the lower part of the boiler and so is behind other stuff on the footplate (I'm talking Brit outline here) and not visible. I have seen locos with boilers whose (...) (26 years ago, 4-Feb-99, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Alternative driver wheels - brit outline steamer

(...) That's a problem with your eye. :-) Prototypical boilers change shape as you back from the smokebox. In fact, most boilers have square bottoms by the time you get back to the firebox. It is perfectly legit to switch from round to octagonal (...) (26 years ago, 4-Feb-99, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Alternative driver wheels - brit outline steamer

(...) Aha! Thanks Larry, I will keep an eye out for those. I think for now I'll replace the 4x4 round and make the whole boiler out of slopes: it does look a bit odd being half one thing and half the other, and really the 4x4 round is a bit small in (...)   Train related find?

Hi All, I finally talked a good friend out of his childhood lego collection as most of hadn't seen the light of day for over twenty years. He got most of it when he was 8 and he's now 41 and still single so no kids to keep it for. I always new he (...) (26 years ago, 4-Feb-99, to lugnet.trains)

Try the 8277 supplied propellor housing, or the 4x4 round with 4 side studs?? I have used both of those to attach tank car domes, a similar problem. (...) PS, we need pictures. (26 years ago, 4-Feb-99, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Alternative driver wheels - brit outline steamer

So I'm talking to myself. Better than nothing. Anyway, the chassis now has a body and it does run better. It's a Great Central Railway (Brit) class 1A 4-6-0, built in 1913-1915. It could also pass for a fair number of other GCR 4-6-0's since many of (...) (26 years ago, 4-Feb-99, to lugnet.trains)
