  Re: train width

(...) John is absolutely correct here. You have 2 choices upon which to gauge your scale-- the height of the minifig or the track gauge (the distance between the rails). As John mentioned, a typical US train is about 10 feet wide, and standard track (...) (21 years ago, 29-Jan-04, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: ENGLISH APT ,COLOURS,Red or Orange stripe?

(...) They tend to have stickers on both sides, yes. We are going to informally exchange containers at BrickFest PDX, I am sure. I'll be bringing a few MichLTC to trade with whoever wants to trade. (...) You should work with the Train Coordinator on (...) (21 years ago, 29-Jan-04, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: train width

(...) Well, considering trains in the U.S. are about twice the width of the rails, and overhang the ends of the ties, I'd say the actual width should be 10 wide, with automobiles being 7 wide -- wide enough for two minifigs to sit side-by-side. But (...) (21 years ago, 29-Jan-04, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: ENGLISH APT ,COLOURS,Red or Orange stripe?

(...) SNIP 7 wide! Now that's what I've been saying since I first heard of the how wide debate. It's about time a real train builder came around to the truth: Trains are 7 wide and cars are 5 wide! Aaron (21 years ago, 29-Jan-04, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Re: Flush access door

(...) Although that would certainly work, there are no right answers that I was looking for. And there are no tests. I just enjoy people who can explain a building technique with just words. I was in a science competition as a teen where one person (...) (21 years ago, 29-Jan-04, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.town, lugnet.space)

  Re: Flush access door

(...) I was challenging people to go to the next step of their innovation long before the title was applied to my name. Some people fulfill their challenge, others don't. I still don't think I've seen a moonbase from you Larry! Thanks, it's (...) (21 years ago, 29-Jan-04, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.town, lugnet.space)

  Re: Flush access door

(...) Such a simple little innovation, but a great one. The uses for space stuff and their affinity for studlessness makes it a welcome addition. Nice work. Cheers, -Gil (21 years ago, 29-Jan-04, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.town, lugnet.space)

Re: ENGLISH APT ,COLOURS,Red or Orange stripe?

(...) The stripe is red. It's just faded photographs that make it look orange. The hardest match is the colour around the windows, as it's a very dark grey cyanic colour. I suppose if you live in England it counts as "sea blue". I think dark grey, (...) (21 years ago, 29-Jan-04, to lugnet.trains)

P.S. Jolly well done you jammy git! Congratulations. (I bet they stitch his pockets closed when he turns up for work...) Jason Railton (21 years ago, 29-Jan-04, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.town, lugnet.space)

  Re: Flush access door

(...) Oh please, you use a 1x5 technic 'rotor' plate and push the studs of an upturned 1x2 plate down into the ends and build on that. It's five long, so you get half a stud offset flush with your six-wide wall. Hide the rounded ends by resting them (...) (21 years ago, 29-Jan-04, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.town, lugnet.space)

ENGLISH APT ,COLOURS,Red or Orange stripe?

Hello all, I am collecting parts to build a English Advanced Passinger Train. It will have a 7 wide base, 6 wide top and 6 wide front. And alot of various hinge bricks and plates. It will be based on James Mathis APT design. But I was abit unsure (...) (21 years ago, 29-Jan-04, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: Flush access door

(...) Its my first 8 wide but its not quite ready. Its a GE C40-8W and its 64 studs long. Its a monster. I'll post some pics in the next couple of weeks once key parts arrive. Mike (21 years ago, 29-Jan-04, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.town, lugnet.space)

  Re: 4410 "steam engine junction"

(...) are two 1x? tiles resting directly on top of the box.   Re: Flush access door

  Flush access door

While working on my latest train I had an idea for an access door. It uses the 2x2x2 container but leaves the door flush with the surface and leaves no gap above the door. I'm not sure if its been done before but here it is. The wacky colors are for (...) (21 years ago, 28-Jan-04, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.town, lugnet.space)
