I seriously considered building the star. I would have "cheated" a little, and
basically made it a big square, with seven pointed triangles coming off the
sides (2 on each side, but only one big one on the front).
Maybe 90 degree interior angle at the "pointy" ends (it looks like all the
interior angles are 75-80 degrees in the real structure), with some hinge bricks
connecting it back to the big square - and some creative angled plate work to
fill in the top.
A couple things kept me from doing it:
1) To keep it to scale, it would have had to be as big across as the Statue +
Ped is tall. I didn't want to take up that real estate in my house.
2) I'd need lots of bricks, as well as your aforementioned brass :-)
3) After building that, I'd then be tempted to build the island, then the
harbor, then the NY City skyline.... Ah, if only I had unlimited bricks,
floorspace and time!
