I appreciate the complements. In all honesty, I can't take any credit for
the boarding ramp, since I copied the design from one in set 6597 (Century
Skyway). In fact, the whole V6368 Airjet is a mesh of several other Lego
company designs, and about the only imaginative thing I really added was the
striped stickers from the much-maligned 897 Idea book. However, it still
looks pretty good, and the red/black scheme is my co-favorite along with the
1775. I thought I'd enter it just for fun - I think there are many more
creative designs entered by others in that category.
When I reflect on it, I find that everything I build out of Lego is usually
directly or indirectly influenced by something else - but the challenge for
me is how to replicate something so that it looks "real" to me.
Laural Hall was inspired by an interesting source. It's not a big secret or
anything (several people might have run across it already), but I am
planning at least one other model from the same source and I'd like to try
and retain some surprise or "newness" for when I do reveal them....
Thanks!
