Hi Ian,
availability of the PF accessories on S@H is truly good news - and I find the
pricing entirely reasonable. As for shipping costs - without wishing to justify
anything beyond what's fair - I figure they simply do not have a "local"
distribution center in Australia which would entirely screw up any chance for
discount shipping. I expect that if TLC didn't have e.g. a distribution center
in Germany, we would be facing at least 2-3 times the shipping charges that are
being applied here, too (still way to go in comparison to the 30 AUD you
mentioned, I guess - will have to check the exchange rates eventually). Just
btw., PF parts are the same price here - but in Euros! Well, it's not as if we
weren't used to that pricing scheme.
Comparing the cost for individual PF parts to the retail price of the first
large PF set (8275), I may go for the individual parts and buy 2-3 sets (battery
box, remote, 2 IR sensors, 2 each of M and XL motors) to build something to play
around with with the kids (okay, probably 4 as the wife certainly wouldn't want
to stand back on such a nice toy...) While the bulldozer is cool, I have a large
supply of usable technic parts and could design nice and interesting machines
myself...
We'll see when February comes (out of budget error... :( )

| I have just been browsing the Lego Shop @ Home site (I live in Australia), and the Power Functions elements are now available. Great! $7.99 for the XL Motor, and $9.99 for the regular motor (that's a bit odd, but anyway). For under $30 AUD I can get (...) (16 years ago, 10-Jan-08, to lugnet.technic)
